Cheapest state for non-resident tags?

Just curious what the fee is for non-resident hunters in your home state. Washington is $722.70 for everything (elk, deer, bear, and cougar). Just a deer or elk tag though is 394.20.

How does your state compare?

I heard from a buddy that in Virginia, a non-resident lisence for $140.00 gets you 5 deer tags, 1 bear tag, 1 cat tags (don't know if that is a bobcat or something else) and at least 1 turkey. If this is true I may join him on his Thanksgiving-time hunt.

WV is $110 (That gets you small game and 1 buck during gun season)

+$25 for archery
+$30 for ea. add'l archery (2)
+$30 for add'l gun
+$25 for muzzleloading
+$25ea for doe tags (I believe you can buy 3)
+$25 for 3 turkeys

That's $320 for 9 deer, 3 turkeys and small game. Not too awfully bad when you compare it. (At least I have to justify it somehow...LOL)

TEXAS. . . . .

Just got the new Texas 2004/2005 book and it shows $300 for the season, all game, or $45 for a 5 day, in a row, dated tag.;)

etw 08-27-2004 07:43 AM

RE: Cheapest state for non-resident tags?

TEXAS was $250, now its $300. That and a thousand dollars might get you a place to hunt. Not non-resident friendly in my opinion. (The 5-day $45 is for exotics, birds and squirrel, Not for DEERS) ADD to the license the fees for Archery, TX waterfowl, Turkey stamps.)

Iowa is something like $390 and Wisconsin is around $160. My resident Minnesota license is $78, that lets me hunt all gun, archery and muzzleloader seasons. I'm not sure what nr is here. The new bow is going to have to wait since I'll be out over $600 in tags alone this year.

TheRick 08-28-2004 08:34 AM

RE: Cheapest state for non-resident tags?

Minnesota NR Firearm license is $136. For archery the state just passed what they call Resiprocity (sp). What it means is that the price of a NR archery license in Minnesota is the same as your home state would charge a NR for an archery license. I guess it is a way to get back at Iowa for jacking up the price on their NR archery licenses.

Not sure this is true. I'm a NC resident but I was raised in South Side VA where I still have family and close friends. You will have to have a Non resident license in addition you will need a NR Big Game license(if you will hunt deer or big game)and a NR permit for every weapon you choose to use. On the website I see my cost will be

NR license $111
NR Big Game $86
NR Archery permit $31
NR Xbow permit $31

for a grand total of $259. Now I am using fees for the whole year if you just use a firearm you won't need additional weapon permits. Also they offer short term hunting permits that would probably be less if you have a scheduled date and time to hunt.

olsaltydog 08-19-2013 07:48 AM

This thread is from 2004, think alot of fees and regulations have changed since then.

Dang it, Cruiser ... bet me to it.

Man has it been wet where I hunt near Eufaula. Have unofficially recorded 53.5" of rain from May 3 through August 17. Got over 7" from Aug. 9 -to Aug. 17.

Wisconsin is 175 for archery and 175 for gun. you get one doe tag and one buck tag with that. small game is 75 for the reason if my memory suits me correctly.
