Why do broadheads, and mechanicals fly different?
 

i personally shoot mechanicals becuase that is what i have my bow set up on. Last year i could shoot both beleive it or not. This year i put a new drop away rest on it (trap door, mach 4) I like the rest but when i shot a regular 100gr broadhead it dropped dramatically, then i shot a mechanical and it was right on target. So why do they fly different?

Generally bow tuning is the reason for changes in flight or POI. Bladed BH's will show these possible problem that FP or mech head will not. Slight changes in POI can result from a tuned bow but dramatic changes are usually a direct result of something just not quite right. In my bows I can shoot a number FH to the same spot.

so do u think my set-up is good with shooting mechanicals or do u think i have some tuning left to do. I never paper tuned my bow, so maybe u can give me some advice on that as well, thanks Mike

Turkey, if you haven't paper tuned you should IMHO it is must before you take to the field. Your bow maybe tuned I don't know for sure but mechs can mask problems that FH's will show, paper tuning will give you a blueprint of what is happening in flight regardless of the head you choose. Flight problems or untuned bows will/can result in less penetration as the energy is lost in flight and not hitting the target true. It is actually not super difficult process to do in your backyard or field. I use a frame I made of 2x2's put a piece of large art paper and attach it tight to top and bottom (I use wing nuts with an additional 2x2 to accomplish this but you can also staple!). Then place your target stop directly behind the paper but enough distance so it will fly threw (3ft or so). Most clubs or proshops will have a paper tuning setting up that will allow you to the same thing, if you care not to build it. Here are a couple of link in regards to tuning that will walk you throw the procedures and will tell you ways to solve possible problems you maybe having. Also most user manuals have a section on tuning and paper tuning as well.
