RE: Button Bucks?
IMHO I don't think a button buck should be shot under any conditions.

RE: Button Bucks?
I think they shouldn't be shot.

RE: Button Bucks?
I don't think they should be shot, but if shot on ACCIDENT they should be tagged with a buck tag. IMO
|
RE: Button Bucks?
In my opinion they should be tagged with a buck tag. Mistake or no mistake, he is still eliminated from the herd.

RE: Button Bucks?
YES! Even though they are antlerless they are still a buck. Let 'em grow.

RE: Button Bucks?
I'VE SHOT A BUTTON BUCK BEFORE, I HAD A DOE PERMIT, AND I SHOT WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A WHITETAIL DOE, WHNE I WENT TO GUT IT OUT IT HAD THE TWIG AND BERRIES, I LOOKED AT IT'S HEAD IT AND IT HAD LITTLE NUBS THAT WERE JUST POKING THROUGH THE SKIN, AND IT WAS LEGAL!!!!

RE: Button Bucks?
In Va. if the antler is above the hairline it is classified a buck and must be tagged with a buck (Either Sex) tag. I shot a dink 4 point this year that I thought was a doe, do not get me wrong, if it had been bucks only that deer would have walked. He still taste good though.

RE: Button Bucks?
NOT ON MY TAGS, I WOULD SHOOT A BUTTON BUCK, BUT SOMETIMES PEOPLE DO BECAUSE THEY CANT TELL THE NUBS. BUT NOONES PERFECT.
|
RE: Button Bucks?
its hard to say tag as buck when ya didnt know it was one. thats why alot of states call them antlerless, that protects a guy from making an honest mistake.
|
RE: Button Bucks?
My first deer was a button buck. But I think they should be tagged as a doe unless the antlers a above the hair line by one inch, 'cause if you're doing a push, how are you going to know if it's a buck or a doe?

RE: Button Bucks?
I think a button buck should be taged with a buck tag, even when shot by mistake, I'am the one that put this question on the boared, at the time i was mot a member, so i didn't put my name on it.

RE: Button Bucks?
No - Don't think buttons should be tagged w/buck tag.Hunter may not have buck tag to use. What you do then?? Everbody makes mistakes.Shootin a button should be a rare exception.
Hunter education, paying attention, being patient are key to lowering the chances of killing a button. Nice thing about using a Scope or Binochs. You should be able to see those nubs.I glass everthing very closely! After a while you can spot those pesky nubs. Couple things I've observed - If you see a lone deer,it might very well be that stupid button buck, just roaming around. He has no idea where he's goin. They are fun to watch. If you see a deer sniffin anothers rear end,the sniffer might be a button buck. If you see a large dominent Doe with 3-5 taggin along. You can bet 1-2 are buttons. That button buck this year will be a nice 8-10 point in couple years. Edited by - aj52 on 02/28/2002 18:52:47 |

RE: Button Bucks?
It realy helps if you guys would read your state regulations. In West Virginia a buck is a deer that has one or both antlers 3 inches above the hair line, other wise its considered antlerless.

RE: Button Bucks?
I agree with every thing AJ52 said about the button buck topic, I put this issue on the board, to get as many replies as i can. I know my state regulations, here in Michigan, but theres a group here called Whitetails Forever Network, that is tring to change the regulation on this issue, making it that you have to tag a button buck with a buck tag, and i'am just tring to get as much feedback as i can, and see what our HUNTERS think about it. I know what i think, but it doesn't hurt to find out what others think on this issue.
