What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
What do you consider "ideal" weather for whitetail hunting? I like 15 to 20 degree weather with a light snowfall and virtually no wind.

I dont know if there is an ideal hunting weather for me and deer hunting .I love it when it's cold but not so cold that I'm miserable.I guess if I had to pick one it would have to be in the low teens to make me jump for joy.

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
I like to hunt on a cool winter overcast morning, with a slight breeze so you know EXACTLY where your scent is going. That is what I have come up with to be ideal in 1 year of hunting.(NO science included)

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
My ideal weather is any time I can get out,I don't care wether it's hot, cold, raining,or snowing. You must adapt to the weather, when you can do that, your're a better hunter in that way.

|

Dead calm,silence and sunshine.
|
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
A little Snow on the Ground , Calm and overcast.
Around 20 to 30 degrees |
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
It seems that most of you like overcast mornings, I do to. When there are no shadows it is easier to see the deer movement, BUT, that works both ways, as it is easier for them to see you.
Idealy for me, 40 deg. morning, clear sky, slight, predictable breeze. |
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
A nice friendly topic...I like cool mornings, 30-35 degrees, overcast, damp leaves (no cornflakes), and a slight breeze. Never hunted deer in the snow, but I guess it would make it easier to track.

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
perfect? well i love those cloudy ,overcast days. especially when a cold front is coming through. almost miserable. i have had the best luck on these kinds of days. but i'll go anytime, anyweather .

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
Greets,
Well, I have to say, after spending many a soggy day in the woods so cold I couldnt stop shaking, I prefer a clear day, with temps now colder than 40 but no higher than 60. The only deer I have seen or taken were in these kinds of conditions. I will say this, a light rain that comes and goes cant hurt at least I dont think so. Just my uneducated opinion! RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
My idea of a perfect day is a day with a steady light breeze, a light steady snow, and the temp just low enough to let the snow stick. I have had two of these in my 38+ years of hunting and got a deer both times. I will take a light rain with all of the above also.

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
Well down here in South Louisiana we dont get a lott of super cold weather. So when it does dip down in the 20's and lower you can bet I will be out in the woods. The deer usually dont move real early because everything is frosted over, but when the sun comes up , and starts thawing everything out aroun 9:00 or so, the deer have to move. They are not aclimated to this cold weather either and must get up and move.
|
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
The deer are out there weather or not you are.
Hunting is a right, treat it like a priviledge - respect nature |
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
nothing seems to beat those crisp november mornings when it is very still and the woods are crunchy with frost...evenings i like it to be overcast with somewhat of a breeze, but not too much.
|
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
Well, I personally like these conditions:
The morning after a night of rainfall or thunderstorms seems to bring them out big time. I like a light, predictable breeze that makes the leaves sway so that you can get away with movement. I hate being cold so I prefer autumn temperatures like 50's and 60's. I shot my deer last year when the temperature was in the high 60's! Love it!! -Mike |
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
My idea of that perfect day...Temp about 20 degrees, absolutely no wind, dry (crunchy)leaves on the ground with cloudy skies.
|
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
My best luck has been in the morning after a new moon, when a front has just passed or a mild rain or snow shower. Or after a new moon right before a front moves through. Either one has been very productive.

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
Late afternoon, light snow falling with about an 1" accumulated on the ground. I like to find a nice bushy evergreen tree to sit under and wait. On a day like this I've had REALLY good luck.

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
whatever it is, its not in ky.
|
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
anyhting but below 0 or above 30mph winds. as long as i'm in the woods, i'm happy.
|
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
I have had good luck on overcast drizzly or foggy days. The deer seem to move more.
But the best time to be in the woods is on a crisp clear cold morning with a full moon rising in perigee, especially in November. |
RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
COOL NOT COLD, CLOUDY

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
For me I want SNOW to start about 4am then have about 3 to 4 more inches when I get to my stand. I like overcast days and snow showers all day long. I don't know if its the best for hunting but I think it is the most beautiful when it is snowing and I am hunting. I love hunting when it snows.

RE: What is the "ideal" weather to hunt deer?
I like to hunt in the evening after it has been a stormy day---but has cleared up an hour or so before sunset. Deer seem to come in droves---maybe checking on one another to see how they weathered the storm (LOL).
