Idiots In The Woods
I'm not sure if this is a funny or sad story. Years ago when I graduated from high school I got a job working in a local hardware store. We sold everything from hardware to gifts to sporting goods. On this particular day a gentleman walked into the store so I approached him and asked him could I help him. He said, "Yessir, I need some bullets to go deer hunting with." I said, "OK, what caliber do you need?" He just shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know, just give me something that will kill a deer." I then had to explain to him the differences between calibers and bullet weights and construction. He just stood there with this blank look on his face and said, "I'll come back later."
He never returned, thank God! I hope I never have to hunt the same piece of woods as this brain surgeon. |

I know what you mean , I work part time in a small gun shop .Last fall a guy came in and wanted a box of 7mm or 30 cal ammo to hunt deer ,good stuff. I ask what his gun was chambered for ? He said just give me the ammo . He was a jerk when I tryed again to find out info , so I sold him the box of Weatherby 30-378 ammo that some one had ordered and never picked up ,I figgered he could not hurt himself with ammo that would not fit.

RE: Idiots In The Woods
Idiots are all over down here! You can go to any pro shop just before the season and find one or two guys that bought their first bow and are getting ready to hunt. A weeks practice and they're experts.

Reminds me of the engineer that came into the shop one day, headed for the bandsaw and procedded to cut a live round into. Fortunately the casing flew and not the slug.
There's a idiot born every minute. |
RE: Idiots In The Woods
One of the most common ones I know of is the hunter who sends his wife out the week before the season to pick up some ammo for him. She comes in and says she wants some 7mm shells. Doesn't have a clue which 7mm shells, just knows her husband wants 7mm shells!?!?!

I was guiding a hunter one day who had missed several deer the first day. I finally looked at his gun and ammo and he was shooting 7mm-08 shells out of a 308 rifle. He had picked up his brothers rifle instead of his own. Well at least he had fireformed some brass for his 308.

i hunt in s.w. washington, in the willapa hills, if anyone knows where that is. but anyways the opening weekend of rifle season. all these city hunter from seattle come down here, and drive around on ever logging road they can find. to see if they can shoot a deer in the road or what. but not to many blacktails get shot in the road since our deer population is declinign rapidly. but sometimes they get lucky and shoot a little spike in the road which has a gut pile the size of a dog. probly most of them don't even bring binoculars either, so they aren't gonna see anything in the clear cuts. and usually after the first weekend they don't come back, but id they don't know how to hunt then they should just stay home or hunt on there own turf.

'bout 8 Yrs ago now, I get in this pine tree, 15 or so ft up. Edge of a good field. 4:00 AM.
At about 6:30 or so, this guy comes in and sets up at the base of the tree. Put up some kind of camo material blind about two(2) ft high. After he got good and settled, I quietly announced my presence by say "morning." He went off like a gun! Started cussing and everything. When he calmed down, he asks me if I'v seen anything. I said, “Yep, here’s your sign.”:D:D:D |

I went out on public land one day years back and got up in a real tall pine tree on the corner of 2 roads so i could see anything crossing them or going into the clearing across the road and about day light here comes some guy down the road in his truck he stopped right infront of my stand and changed his clothes smoked a cigarette and drank his coffee then answered the call of nature and drove away he never saw me or had any clue I was there but needless to say I never saw anything else that morning

If you want to see idiots you should go to Minnesota's Camp Ripley hunt. It's an archery only hunt on a military base. It is an awesome hunt, the deer are big and everywhere but some of the hunters are a few arrows short of a full quiver. Opening morning, a couple guys stopped under my buddy's tree. He asked them if they couldn't find an effing tree. They were on a drive, opening morning. I'm not going to bad mouth anybody there too much. The hunting pressure really moves the deer around and makes it a unique hunt. Everyone there has to camp in the same area so you get to see the deer eveyone gets and all around it's a fun atmosphere. If you don't like hunters nearby, it's not the place to go. The three of us that went two years ago didn't get anything but we all had borderline wallys in shooting range but no shot opportunities. Not bad for a two day hunt.

RE: Idiots In The Woods
several years back we had some new hunters come into a hunting camp about 2 miles from us. the end of thei property came to withing 200 yds of ours.just as the sun came up i heard rustling in in the woods and became nervous.i watched closely with my binocs for several minutes.asquirrel ran across the road in front of me and i just knew the deer would step out any minute.just as i thought the buck of a lifetime would step out,out came 2 hunters from the other camp. he pointed to my stand and told his buddy, there is a stand and someone is in it.i was about 60yds away.he waved and walked down the road.i was so mad i laughed.i saw this idiot at the local store and he said he saw me that morning. i asked what he was doing and he stated he was just showing a friend around. i asked did he not think i was hunting. he said he did not think he was bothering me because he was ar least 50 yards away.what a dufus.

RE: Idiots In The Woods
I ran into a guy a few years back during Elk season. It' was an either sex area, well he came walking down an old growed over road we normally walk up. well as we were gearing up we greeted each other and asked how he did. Well he said not too good, all he'd seen were a couple of pheasant and six deer. Well we're pretty high up in the woods(dark evergreen timber) and that pheasant comment got me to thinkin(Iv'e never seen a pheasant in the timber) so I asked him about the deer. He exclaimed"Ya big deer , the biggest I ever saw!" My Dad didn't catch on but I did, so I asked"Were these big Yellow deer?". " Ya...the biggest yellow deer I ever saw, they were HUGE!" Well we went up to find the elk trail and bunch of pretty startled grouse. [:o]
