guide help

Im looking for advise from any guides or outfitters out there. Im looking to start a career in guiding. I will be starting college next year and taking wildlife biology. Im not sure about going to a guide school or what outfitters in the U.S require. Im also not sure how to go about getting the job. Please help.

RE: guide help

In Manitoba we have to write a test and once you pass it, you get your guide license. I am not sure what outfitters have to do. I did not take any guide training b/c i worked for my uncle this spring and I knew exactly what my duties were going to be beforehand and I was not responsible for a lot. There are a couple guide training places that teach survival techniques amongst other things. Depending on what you're guiding for and your experience, you may want to take training even if it is not necessary. Experience is the best teacher IMO.

RE: guide help

In Wisconsin all you need is $40. if your a resident. No non-residents can guide. We have bad guides and good ones, but really an over all low number of guides.
