Getting ticks off you?
I was wondering how people get ticks off themselves? I hear people saying they pull them off but I thought the heads stayed in if you did that? Thanks-Sam

Put vasiline on them and it will sufficate them.

RE: Getting ticks off you?
I pull them off and sometimes the head gets stuck. I would try heating up a pin and holding it on them. I heard they will back out themselves if you do this.

What happens if the head gets stuck?

RE: Getting ticks off you?
I just leave it in if it is a wood tick. However, if it is a deer tick you may be at risk for contracting lymes disease, in which case it would probably be too late.
The head just dissolves. |

Take alcohol with a cotton swab and put next to their head and they will back out.

Just pull the dang thing out.........Unless it's been sucking on you for a couple of days the head won't be in very deep. Just grab it, and yank. No big deal.

RE: Getting ticks off you?
I always heard the using heat method but when I read an article in Field and Stream last year they said that doing that actually makes them dig in further... I usually just pull them out.

Pull it out, throw it in the toilet and piss on it. If it wants some of my body fluids let it swim in that for awhile...

just grab closest to the head as you can and pull firmly but gently and it will come out. if the head comes off you will be able to see it in your arm and dig it out with some tweesers.

The burn method is for leaches only.........if u burn a tick and you make it throw up in your skin and if its caring lyme disease u just contracted it to you. Vaseline is good for suffication, and simply pulling it out is okay. I am no doctor, but when i was stationed in north carolina with the marines the doc always told us to suffocate or pull it out, dont burn em.

RE: Getting ticks off you?

RE: Getting ticks off you?
Ticks contract diseases to humans not by the bite. The tick gorges itself on your blood and when it can't eat anymore, it essentially throws up back into your blood stream. this is how the diseases are transmitted from ticks. So, when you irritate a tick, you risk the tick throwing up back into your blood and infecting you. This is why an easy pull from the head of the tick is the best method of removing a tick.
