Deer in Orchard
I mentioned this under the Apple Orchard thread. But here goes. Last night I had 2 -10 pointers that look like they will mature to 140 BC type racks and a small six point. In the orchard. I snuck up to 50 yards or so with the binocs and got some real good looks. I will get out the 35 mm camera tonight. Only problem is in the past the flip flop of the double reflex spooks them if they are 50 yards or closer. Haven’t seen the 3 or 4 does and a spike that were around a week or so ago. Last year I had a serious farmer who was farming the apples for profit and I made the mistake of dropping all the deer in July to protect the crop and l didn’t even see a deer during the regular season. I tried to just take does one year to cut back on the damage then the bucks at rut time went else ware. Its really quite a dilemma because taking them this time of the year just isn’t like hunting they really are stupid in the summer. I vacillate year to year on what to do. My trees are a shambles this year from deer damage. I do want good hunting in Oct to Dec so I am trying to just chase them but as some one else said you chase them out one side and they come back a few hours later.

What's more important to you ,
your crop or your hunting ? You can always hunt somewhere else . |

I'm guessing that the orchard isn't your only money maker .
