Which hunt do you remember the best?

My favourite hunt has to be the one when i shot my second buck. I saw him standing on top of the hill behind me earlier that morning. I blew the grunt and he ran off, I thought "crap" he's gone. about 1 1/2 hours later, i heard a deer running my way from the direction that buck went. it was a doe. Then I heard another deer. There he came, they stopped behind my stand and stood there for a while. i was watching them, then the doe turned around and started running the other way. i knew the buck would follow, so I quickly raised my gun and aimed and pulled the trigger. He dropped right there, then got up and ran off. I went to look for him and couldnt find him, so i left the woods and got some friends. we went to the spot where he dropped the first time and found blood, so we made a line and started walking, every little bit, some would say "blood". finally, the blood ran out so we stopped, my cousin adam looked behind us and said "there he is". WE walked right passed him lol. we drug it out and checked him in.

I didnt even see a deer. But I sat in the top of a big old pine and watched one of the most Beautiful sunsets that I had ever seen. I had to thank God for allowing me to be here to see it.

I have been hunting with my sons and friends for over 40 yrs but my most cherished hunt was with my Dad back in 1964. I only had the opportunity to hunt with him one single day (a 100% Disabled Vet/double amputee ) and I will never forget that day. He's the one soley responsible for my being a hunter and subsequently passing it on to my son. He is no longer with us but his memory will NEVER fade. I know it was so many years ago, but believe it or not, sometimes it seems like yesterday! Good topic I-E.

Well they are all great, but the 2 that are the best both took place here in New Jersey. 1st one took place in the 2000 bow season November 17th. I was hunting public land, my best friend wasn't hunting with me, but he did show up for the afternoon hunt and he stayed at the bottom so he wouldn't bother me. That day I was seeing numerous bucks, a few with nice racks. At 3 pm i hear deer running I see 12 deer, one spike, one 4 pointer, eight pointer with a straight up rack he was chasing a doe and grunting, further up the ridge was a 8 pointer that i never saw, he had a 24" rack, he had to weigh well over 220lbs. 1/2 hour of watching him and the doe he was chasing was exciting!!! The doe walks right under my stand, and so does the buck, I drew and hit him!!!! He ran about 30yds. went up twice on his hind legs, and fell over, the doe was stomping her feet, this went on for 15/20 mins. Then all of a sudden the buck gets up, and walks away!!!! I wait about a 1/2 hr. walk a differnt route to my truck, thinking I will return the next day. When I get close to the road I see my friend climbing down from the tree, he was excitied on seeing this deer, but had no idea i shot. He said that the deer was hurt!!!! The next day we return, find a pool of blood where i saw the buck lay down. We follow the blood trail, and it dried up, we looked for hours, and every few days, but never saw or found this deer.

The 2nd hunt took place on the last day of the NJ buck shotgun season which was the same week as NJ's 1st black bear hunt in over 30yrs. It was December 13th, 2003, at 9:30 am a bear was 50yds from me, One shot from my Remington 11-87 slug gun and the Lightfield slug did its job. She wasnt the biggest bear I got, but was the most special cause it took place here in my home state of NJ.

RE: Which hunt do you remember the best?

hey all..

i am new to this message board and i am finding a lot of interesting post to read.

i have 2 favorite hunts... my first deer (12 pnt) and fifth deer (8 pnt).

my first deer, i overslept and was running late getting to the stand, but i decided to go anyways. i was getting pretty bored and thinking that i had wasted my time by coming to the stand late. i was getting ready to climb out of the stand and i look across the field...whoa... a deer..!! i looked at him through the scope and seen antlers. i got real scared and put the rifle down. as i tried to catch my breath and look at him again, i said to myself, this is your chance... its now or never. i aimed and fired... when i opened my eyes, he was gone. i was excited and scared at the same time. i climed out of the stand and walked across the field where i had seen the deer (250 yrs). as i got enough to see that i had killed the deer, my heart started pounding even harder and then i seen another deer turn and run which scared me even more. needless to say, i will never forget this hunt...!! (12 pnt)

my fifth deer, i was hunting the same field as before, only this time i was sitting on the side where my first deer had walked out. it was during rut and i had no clue how to call a deer, but i was going to try. got to learn somehow. directly across from me, i seen three doe's walk out of some small pines. about thirty yards behind them comes a buck. he never picked his head up, he was following them every step, as he was smelling the ground behind them. they walked towards the woods, turned my way, and continues to follow the woods/field line. about 150-175 yrs away, the doe's turned and went into the woods. the buck followed. i did not know if i should blow my grunt call or just wait. i figured i would give it a try. i blew it... nothing... waited and blew it again. the buck comes to the edge of the woods, pauses then turns back into the woods. i waited a few minutes and blew it agian. the buck comes to the edge of the woods again, only this time he is about 125 yrd from me. i blew it again while he was standing at the woods line and he stepped out and looked at me, then turns at looks in the woods. this gave me a good shot and i took it. (8 pnt)

i have only killed 5 deer... 12 pnt... 2 pnt... 4 pnt... 3 pnt... 8 pnt.

here is a link to my first deer... i hope it works. http://www.photodex.com/sharing/view...html?alb=89499
