Help finding a good scope.
Hi, I'm new to hunting and was looking for a decent scope mostly for Deer Hunting.
I don't know much about brands but I've always heard about Bushnell and that is why I was looking at the Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40mm Matte finish, Standard 1 " tube, Firefly reticle which runs around $200 dollars. Is this a good scope ? I will mostly be hunting in Texas and New Mexico. Thanks. |
RE: Help finding a good scope.
1 piece tube design, rainguard, Water proof, multi-coated & lifetime transferable warranty all for 200 dollars! IMO this represent a great value for the money in optics on todays market. Eye relief, weight and styling are slight draw backs. Not sure what cartridge of gun you plan on topping it with but as long as it ain't a big mag the eye relief the elite affords should be adequate. I have owned a few and never caused me any problems.
Another to consider would be Sightron, as I have heard similar claims about their scopes as well. |

RE: Help finding a good scope.
You may also want to look at the Nikon Buckmaster's series of scopes. The optics for this scope are very good, and they fit into your budget.
A Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40 runs about $200.00. |
RE: Help finding a good scope.
z28, I know a fair number of guys sporting the Elite on top of 06'.
Forgot to mention buy yourself good mounts and rings. I only use Leupold rings and never had a stitch of problems. I have seen guys buy new scopes b/c of POI shift only to put on the same rings and continue to experience problems. Rings/mounts are not always talked about or factored but IMHO are huge factor and worth a few extra dollars! Best of luck and enjoy your new setup. |

RE: Help finding a good scope.
Yes that would be a good choice. They are nice scopes. I personally like a little longer eye relief. You might look at the Leupold VX2 models.....great scopes and not too hard on the wallet. I also got a Sightron last year, and like Skeeter said....nice scope, especially for the $. :)

RE: Help finding a good scope.
Thanks for your help guys. I think I'm going to give this scope a try.
I didn't think the type of mounts mattered, but I guess you get what you pay for. |
