Poachers yesterday at city limits
My father-in-law who lives near the edge of town saw 12 deer crossing a field along a hedgerow. As soon as they were out of sight and crossed a road he heard Boom! Boom! Boom! So he called the police and told them about it. They drove by in 5 minutes, but no county law enforcement were ever seen, and it was right at the outskirts of the city limits. Hope they got caught but who knows.

I hope so too Cougar, there is no excuse for poaching and anyone getting caught should never be allowed to hunt again, and should lose the gun they used and be fined heavily. Jail time too.

Heck--the tenant on our lease caught 2 teenagers last summer when their truck got stuck in the mud after trying to jack a deer. He wnet out there on the ATV with a cell phone and called the cops. THe cops said that they were too busy to respond. Eventually the truck got free and the kids left.
Since New Jersey only has a handful of game wardens, there is no way to police the area properly. Poachers ruin it for everyone. |

RE: Poachers yesterday at city limits
This is a really sensative topic with me. I have recently been given the opportunity to hunt a haven for large bucks and a very healthy heard. The only problem is I have to police the property as well. This may sound as though it shouldn't be too difficult but it is and the poachers are going to get more than the book thrown at them. Police do not respond to the siuations effectively in fact I wouldnt be suprised if it was local town cops poaching. I have decided to take the law into my own hands from here on out. I will simply take care of it anyway I know.
Just to give you an example of why I have decided to take drastic measures. Last November I was in my morning stand which is about 60 yrds from a road. I had about 10 deer a mix of small bucks and does in a little field in front of me. It was about 7:00 am and I hear a car coming which isnt uncommon but this ford decided to stop. The truck stops directly in front of my and the window drops and BOOM!!! goes the shot gun into a little spike no more than 20yrds in front of me. Thank god I was 30 feet in the air. So, instead of saying anything at that point I wait until he puts it in park and heads into the woods. He reaches the spike and actually begins to field dress it, can you believe the balls on this guy. Anyway, I climb out of my stand and walk over to him, and I only did this because his firearm was in the truck. I approach him with cell phone in hand and say stay right there. I figure because I have his license plate and caught him red handed he would sit still. I was wrong and he starts using choice words and asking what the F@!# I am going to do. I simply stated either he sit still and await the police and the DEC or I will have to restrain him. Well, needless to say this ass decides to take a swing at me, rather large mistake on his part. Moments latter we now have a dead spike, a hog tied poacher, and police and my father on their way (nothing like having an extra rope in your pocket when attacked by a moron). The police took an hour to show up and when they did they where about to arrest me for restraining the individual. Mind you this is private property, he was poaching deer, and he attacked me. So, basically nothing happened he got a little fine and that was it. I wasn't pressing charges for assault I thought the ass kicking he got was a enough embarrassment not to mention I didn't want to pay for a lawyer. In the future if a similar situation is to happen I wil not call authorities I will just leave the individual in the woods for 24hours and let them loose in the morning, maybe just maybe that will keep them from poaching in the future. I apologize for the graphic display of agression but this was serious and continues to be a serious issue in my area. |

Hey NYWH,
Alittle tar and feathers could help. How about some honey to go with his ropes and 24 in the woods? |
