Not trying to be smart, but have you ever bitten into an acorn?

Anybody else on the pecan question?

I never seen pecan listed on any of the prefer deer food list or stomach content examinations I ever seen. Anything is posible, but may not be likely.

I've never seen deer eat hickory nuts, and I hunt in some places that have a lot of hickory trees and nuts. In fact it seems the afternoons that the squirrels busy working nuts, and making a lot of noise in the leaves, I don't see very many deer. I think all the noise and the activity keeps deer away.

FWIW, The first day of turkey season a couple of years ago, I parked in a buddy yard about 4:30AM. There in the head lights was a doe grazing in his yard under a pecan tree. She could have been grazing on the grass or something else, but I always wondered what she was after.

26 years of deer hunting experience and I've never seen a deer eat a hicker nut.;)

They will eat beech nuts and pecans. I've seen them eat pecans, I don't know if it was a lack of other food in the area, but I know for sure they will eat them.
