shotgun choice
Hey,
I am looking to buy a new slug gun and I am just wondering what you guys like to shoot. I was hoping for a gun that would cost under $800. Thanks, any imput would be great, even if your posting what not to buy.

RE: shotgun choice
I shoot a Rem. 1187 with a choke tubed iron sight barrel . They now call it a turkey gun but just buy a skeet choke for a 2 season gun . I feel fully rifled barrels and slugs are not worth the cost ,I put a mount on the recever and with KO slugs it shoots 3-4" groups at 100 yds . What more can you ask for?

RE: shotgun choice
and yet another vote for the remington 870 express. it is a good reliable gun. for the money you are willing to spend you can get a combo with a rifled barrel (20inch). very good gun. i dont like my dad's mossberg 500. he has lots of problems with it. it usually has something wrong with it. i think that you should go with the 870!

RE: shotgun choice
Go with the Remington 870 Super Mag. Then get the Hasting's rifled slug barrel. Both me and my son shoot the same setup. And with the Super Mag. You can also shoot all shell size's...2 3/4...3 and 3 1/2 in. all from the same gun. I think it's the perfect all around shotgun.

Remington 870 Express Magnum. Super mag is too much gun in a lot of cases. 3 1/2 turkey loads generate more recoil than a .458 Win(used for extremely dangerous game in Africa!)[&:] Get a Remington 20" fully rifled slug barrel that is cantilevered for a scope. On mine, i got a Leupold Vari X II 1-4X shotgun scope...dad has a VX-I or VX-II shotgun scope on his. i shoot Remington Coppersolid sabots outta mine, 2 3/4". Kills deer efficiently. Accurate out to 150 yards and probably more, although i've never tried it. I forget what i paid for mine...for some reason remington doesnt give the option of having a cantilevered barrel in the combos..This set up is the real deal. Stay away from the Benelli nova...Mossberg 835 and 500..Browning made an AWESOME A-Bolt shotgun with rifled barrel but they stopped a couple years ago. If you can find one that doesnt cost a ton of money, BUY IT. Those things drive tacks. Not as fast handling or fast shooting as a pump, and they can't hold 5 shells, but the things are an ultimate deerslaying machine. The Ithaca model 37 deerslayers look pretty good, but IMHO, they're wayyyy too heavy. Stick with Big Green's 870 and you should do fine.
PS- dunno on the Hastings barrels. I prefer Remington myself, but Hastings is probably just as good.
