Trophyhuntr, the truth of the matter is it is probably more expensive to hunt a State like Texas as compared to the other trophy states mentioned.

As for best region, I think Iowa is the #1 best place to hunt, but that is because it's my home state, I only get to hunt it and Missouri everyyear, when I think of trophy animals I think of Iowa, Illinois, wisconsin, Missouri, Canada, and Texas as far as quanity go. You can shoot a trophy anywhere!

racksnbeards, you are right about NR in iowa..they are waaayyy too hard on us. but im glad they do it that way. protects all the huge monster bucks. thats why they have so many. i wish they had a preference for landowners...we own 640 acres and we get as much preference as some schmuck hunting the public land...ugh...oh wait, sorry, i meant texas when i was talking about those huge deer...yep, only like 3 deer in iowa...they live in a pen..no deer in iowa, been extinct for centuries...
..wisconsin is really good as a trophy state too...way overlooked IMO

Yes, yes, keep sending all of them non-residents down here. They do not compete with us residents, and there are plenty of trophy deer to go around. Just when you come down here make sure to bring a couple thousand bucks. We like nonresidents, it just means we are able to buy more toys at the end of the year.

>>>> The key is PRIVATE land in ANY state where outstanding genetics occur in bucks that are permitted to mature. That just does not occur in my home state of North Carolina. That's why I hunt in the Midwest. Kansas would have to be my first choice.....

Hm. Seems like I'd want to hunt the state or land mass with the highest number of high scoring deer per square mile. That could lead you to the little old state of Maryland if you take the P&Y numbers/land mass. All statistics can be misleadig though. Does Maryland have such a high number per square mile because of the density of large racked deer or the density of hunters in combination with good deer? Very few deer die of old age in this state. Perhaps many do in Tx, Io, Il Wi etc...
