Best region to kill record class bucks...

Born n Raised in Illinois, moved to Iowa a few years back (1/2 hour from my Ill. home) & bowhunted Ws. since 1958-almost every part there is.
I see no reason to go to (for Whitetail) Canada, Texas or Mexico, in fact Kansas has little on this part of the country-they are about the same. Lets say this-when the Bowseason is on, I am Bowhunting at home cause they ain't no bigger ones anywhere else. I do have 2-2 1/2 day hunts planned for central Ws. (not Buffalo county) & another 4 days for the Northern part. I will be filming my family in Ill. & trying to take a good Buck in Iowa for sure. If you hunt the midwest-Mo. also, you have the potential of seeing a good Buck-a good Buck is different for everyone but you will have the possibliity of a P&Y Buck. Then again-thou we have them-you may go without seeing one. If you talk to a guide or outfitter or read the hype stories you will think your going to get a shot at one for sure-NOT!!!!! They don't get big by letting hunters see them-even on private, managed land. Good Luck & I am hoping to get a shot at a wall hanger this year-I had 1 shot at 32 yards last year at a 10 point est. 160-he is still around. Good Luck to all.

Texasaggiebowhunter,
First off: Awesome Buck!!! Congratulations, and may there be several more like it in your future!
Is that 209 with or without deductions?? That can make a huge difference, and I'm not even close to being an expert in this area. I'll never say that there aren't big bucks in texas, never did.
Looking at the data that I did, your 209 (after deductions) would be #2 in texas (if it was P&Y) and #4 in Wi. Granted that is dated info, but it shows that Texas is still slightly behind the midwest.
I'm guessing that this year or next Wi will produce a good crop of 180 and up bucks based on Earn A Buck causing a reduction in the # of small bucks, and bucks in general. Therefore they each get an extra year to grow.
I also feel that Pennsylvania will get into the swing of things in a couple of years now that they have antler restrictions.

Hasnt anyone ever heard of the big buck triangle. It covers the northeast section of Mo., and into Ill. then the point is up to Iowa, Ill. boarder. This area of the mississippi river basin is the likley spot a record buck will come from .

We have an area in s. Texas like that, except its called the Golden Triangle, this is where most of the B&C book bucks are taken each year.

Hi all. This is my first post on this forum. I would like to say that you all seem like a knowledgable bunch and I look forward to being a part of this group. As for the question, I would have to say Saskatchewan, although I may be bias as that is where I live.

If theres all these big bucks in Texas being shot then how come they aren't being entered in P&Y?? maybe because P&Y and B&C dont accept trophies shot behind fences[:-]. I think you can't beat Wisconsin Iowa and Illinois. We here in Wis had the B&C record typical for 74 years! the james jordan buck. Iowa will probably produce the world record typica this year. Not from Dubuque county though. Allamakee or Clayton. We've got pictures of or have seen 3 bucks that will be world record calss this fall for sure. Iowa restricts the number of non residents and its shotgun only so the bucks get older and reach maturity. i dont doubt alot of big bucks come from south texas..but more are coming from the upper midwest!

I've already explained why Texas dosent have alot of entries in the P&Y books. And very few ranches down here are high fenced. But even if a ranch is high fenced the deer taken can still make the books as long as the ranches perimeter fence is made up of 1,000+ feet of "low fence" (ex. standard barbwire). A ranch can have 50 miles of high fence, but as long as there is a 1,000+ feet of low fence, all the deer taken can still be entered in the books. So this allows alot of "high fence deer" into the record books.
