either a 243 win or a 25-06 would be the calibers I use for deer.

Right now my two deer guns are the .308 and 7MM RM. For my hunting either could be considered overkill, because my average shots are under 100 yards. I used a 6MM for years, and would not hesitate to use it on just about any whitetail deer, anywhere! So really anything from the .243 on up will be good for deer, so it's just whatever your preference is. If I were going out to buy a "whitetail" only gun, it would be the .260 or 7MM-08!

Up until this year I have used the 30/06 and the 30/30, depending on where I'm hunting. Next yr I'll be using the 270 I think. I have not yet used a 270 hunting , but if it performs well I'll be using it instead of my 06. I hunt in Mississippi , in terrain from small rolling hills with hardwood bottoms to the river swamp bottoms. Generally my kills are in the 25 - 100 yds.

I have been using a 30/.06 for about 15 years...It has more than proved itself.

I live in an area where we hunt both deer and elk and shots can be on the long side. My weapon of choice is a 7mm Rem Mag in a Win Mod 70.

270 or if it is going to be extra windy or I'm in Kansas where the bruisers are I take my 300 Ultra Mag.

I'm an arrow man. If I had to choose I would go for the .270.
