now this is a nice buck taken by Tony Lovstuen with a muzzleloader out west. The kid is on the right. He was the one who shot it. he is 15 and already harvested a world class buck!!!

RE: Got my mount back!!!

You'll have to excuse the trash in that one shot, I've been ebaying some stuff off and my reloading/gun/place to put anything down that I don't feel like putting up room is in a major state of disarray.

very unique rack did he have an injury that caused the deformity

cardboardkiller 03-27-2004 06:14 AM

RE: Got my mount back!!!

Not to say he didn't have one, but we couldn't find one. We chunked the entire deer out for jerky, except for the front shoulders which were completely smashed by my shot from my 300 Ultra Mag, it was extremely gusty that day and I knew he was there so the 270 stayed at home.

The neck is 28", measured from about 1.5" up from the flat of the back.

Here is a live shot of the Albia/Lovstuen buck.

RE: Got my mount back!!!

The neck is 28", measured from about 1.5" up from the flat of the back.
The normal way to measure a neck is at the base of the skull, right behind the ears, along the smallest diameter. This is how most forms are ordered, and gives the best representation of the cape size.:)

cardboardkiller 03-27-2004 03:32 PM

RE: Got my mount back!!!

Using that method it is 23.5".

Thanks for the info.

I'm not a taxidermist and I wasn't present for the measuring, I had been gone from home for about 6 weeks at that point and I had some "homework" to do. :D

This was my first shoulder mount and I wasn't sure of how to measure one. Thanks again.

Nice buck!!! Not that I am complaining at all but I have never killed a "non typical" buck. I have seen them killed at our hunt club but I have not killed one. I am looking for a rack that has points all over the place!!

Congrats CBK! I love those weird racks!

cardboardkiller 03-30-2004 06:27 PM

RE: Got my mount back!!!

Thanks all.

For my own personal tastes I'd rather shoot a non-typical, the unique racks have always been more attractive to me and it they aren't something you can walk into a sporting goods store or taxidermy shop and see half a dozen of.

WOW! That ol' sucker's got some LOOOOOONG tines! Nice lookin' deer.
By the way, whoever wrote: "Nice Crow"... thanks for giving me a helluva laugh. Though I do have a lot of respect for someone who'd mount one... after all, how often do you see a crow mount? Makes me want to get one in a flying mount. If I didn't have "too many damn dead things on the wall" (a quote from my wife) I'd crack one today and take it in for mounting!!!!!! Unique... and I LIKE unique.

Very Unique Cardboard, Nice! On Tony's buck, it was shot 30 miles north of us, you wanna hear the real killer, there's been a typical 16pt seen around our area, that our local conservationist has on video tape, that has been rough scored in the 240's, I'm excited to see if he will be taken this year. Can you imagine two world record class whitetail taken within a 30 mile radius.

I would like to disclose the exact location, but we have enough leasees, & out-of-staters.
