Seen that one a few times over, it sure is odd, but still a nice buck.

If you shot this would you get a full body mount or only shoulder?

I would definately get it mounted. I've read that Black bucks are more rare than Albinos. If thats the case it doesn't really make sense that in some states Albinos are protected but these aren't.

My brother & I saw a Black Buck with 3 other Bucks several years ogo-not close enough for a shot & no camera. We were the only ones to ever see him & never saw him again.

definitely would be a full body mount. an albino is a recessive gene. that means when there is lack of pigment, it is an albino. if there is a surplus of pigment gened in, it is melanistic. when they are black or darker than normal, that is what it is called. and yes it is extremely rare. duh. goes witout sayin. more rare than albinos. saw a newspaper article where some guy shot a small 3 point melanistic one and he was like "its not a trophy, but i am glad." i want to beat the living snot outta that person. shooting a black deer is a trophy enough.

So instead of letting a rare animal walk so others could see it, people have to figure out how it will look on the living room wall?:( I would take a picture then I would tell others and have them keep an eye out for it, there are more then enough deer that I don't have to take the one odd ball.

Yes! As others have stated a melanistic deer is more rare than an Albino!. The albino is a genetic rarity of less than 1/2 % of the population. Piebalds are about 2-3 % and a melanistice is less than the albino. For some reason, most of the melanistics are in Texas! See this site for more inof:

Thanks for the picture!! A great looking animal and I'd love to have one to mount, with pride in my home.

I have never even heard of anyone even seeing a black deer like that. This site is the only place I have seen pictures. I think that I would get a full body mount.

well said model772... i would pass this one up and take a pic... it may be a "nice mount", but this may be some of the reason they are rare, ecause when anyone sees it, the think about their living room...

To play devil's advocate, B & C bucks are very rare too. Would you pass them up?

I've seen some real real dark brown deer and even piebalds, but I have never seen a black one. I guess everything is getting to be equal rights.;) Bobby

That is a very cool pic. I never, or heard of, a black deer. That is really cool. Really nice rack to. To the guy who said let it walk and take a pic, well most ppl don't carry cameras in the woods, and other people could still see it, this person just has to invite the people over her house to see it.;)

Like someone else said it does look like a cross between a bull and a deer. Very nice though.

Thats a nice buck . .even had he not been black. I have seen what I thought was a black one but after seeing yours I don't think he was as black as that one. Would I shoot him ? You bet. Good trophy I would have him mounted and his hide tanned. I would especially like to harvest one like that or an albino.

full body mount definetly.... its worth the money...

RE: A rare animal?

It's head still looks brown to me. Not saying they're horses, but when horses grow their winter coat their fur gets darker, and that looks like the case here-but that's only cause I'm skeptical, and don't mind me. Seriously.
