Whitetail Hunting Place
If you could hunt whitetail deer anywhere in the United States that were naturally grown deer where would you go and why. the reason i ask is because i am moving my 16th birthday present untill the fall and would love to pick a great place. thanks

RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
I enjoy hunting everywhere I go so this is a tuff one.
I guess I would have to say Alberta..Lots of game to see while your hunting. I would think for a 16 year old this would be a tuff place because your "newness" to hunting (and at 16 you are new- no offense I wish I was 16 again) would be to shoot the first 8 point you see and thats fine. I think if I were your dad I would really stress to be patient..you have all week. Your eyes will not believe what you will step in front of you! |
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
great advice outdoor.....Lots of guys that come up to Sask here hunting shoot the first deer they see because it is the biggest one they have ever seen.....Then at the end of the week when the rest of the clients have got their deer these guys kick themselves for not holding out for bigger and better.

RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
I would love to hunt Sask. I have driven through there many times on the way north to fish. Anyone have any good contacts to plan a deer hunt there? I have hunted Black bear several times west of Creighton Sask.
NE and MN. are two good states as well as Iowa. Montana would be another great choice. |
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
I just went on a hunting trip for whitetail deer for my sixteenth birthday this past November. We went to Oklahoma with Bird-n-Buck Outfitters. It was a blast. Oklahoma never gets a lot of credit for having big whitetails, but if you think about it, it is right in between two of the biggest buck states in the country, Kansas and Texas. There were bucks everywhere, and most of them were big bucks. We saw at least 20-25 bucks a day, and me and my dad both got nice ones that will score around 140-150. The success rate is pretty high, I think we had like 15 guys in camp the week we were there and 14 guys got a buck. We saw a few that would have scored in the 170's-180's but they were always just out of range. Their website is bird-n-buck.com if you wanna check it out.

Thanks for the input it sounds like right now that the best places are either alberta or sasc. does anyone know of any good outfitters for these places
|
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
Best thing is check out each provinces Outfitter websites to get a list of outfitters, than make a list and call those who are of interest. You'll want to get as many references from each camp as possible and then call those folks to see what they thought of the camp, animals and services provided. There are a number of excellent camps in both provinces but there some not so great camps as well, do some homework on the outfitters of interest and you'll be much happier.

I'd have to say my dream hunt would be in Alberta or Sask.
It is a totally different climate, with huge deer! |
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
Northway Outfitters
POB 35 Cando, SK SOK OVO 306-937-3017 TEAM REALTREE HAS HUNTED HERE QUITE A FEW TIMES AND HARVESTED SOME NICE WHITETAILS. IF YOU'RE THINKING OF GOING NORTH YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK THEM OUT. MIDWEST IS ALSO PRODUCING SOME BIG DEER, MISSOURI, KANSAS ETC. GOOD LUCK! |
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
I am going to IL this year on my first guided bow hunt. I can't wait. But, I have to agree with you guys, my dream for someday down the road is to go to Sask. I have seen videos (realtree @ Northway like 10 Point Tony said) and the bucks are absolute MONSTERS! Just massive!
|
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
sure northway outiffters are probably real good but all i say is keep an open mind. There are plenty of other good outfitters in sask that maybe haven't got the publicity. Being that northway outfitters is such a popular name more than likely these guys will be booked up for a couple years. My friend here is an outfitter and he is already booked up for this season and he does not even advertise. I am just letting u guys know that just because realtree was there, doesn't make them any better of an operation and be open to other outfitters in sask because they will be just as good if not better.....

RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
I would say right where I do hunt. In southern Iowa. The world record buck was taken this year just a little ways from where I hunt.

RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
Getting firearms and ammo over the border is more lengthy than it once was but if you fill out the paperwork in advance you can be assured that you'll have no problems and be on your merry way quickly when you land at a canadian destination. Most outfitters will give you contact information and what is required. Here is the website for the Canadian firearms Centre that you can access the forms, info ,etc (look under the vistor portion) www.cfc-ccaf.gc.ca.
I agree I certainly wouldn't base my hunt on the realtree boys:eek:. Do your homework believe me far better camps to hunt then Northway. Not saying Northway is bad but you can't honestly think Realtree goes there b/c its the best Sask has to offer do you? |
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
If i did hunt in Canada i would have people over 18 with me and also bambikiller6 do you know of any good outfitters personally in Sask or Alaska
|
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
sorry but i hunt my own land a lot and dont use outfitters if i dont have to. i will keep my eyes open for you
|
RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
No offense, and maybe a lot of other guys can agree with me here. But if you're only 16, I really don't think you'd have the patience for a 16 hour stand sit in Saskatchewan under extreme freezing conditions. Especially when the hunt extends for 5,6 or 7 days. Try somewhere like Iowa or Illinois.

RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
If I wanted to go on a hunt that was a pay hunt, the outfitter "guaranteed" a shot at a trophy buck, top notch meals, etc, why not go to a place like the Sanctuary or one of the other top notch rated pen hunts? Heck, if the outfitter is going to do all the work what is the difference. (I hope you realize I was being a bit facicious as I am quite happy hunting our south Alabama whitetails)

RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
congratulations,on inquiring about big bucks.your next big buck wont come from some well known outfitter in a well known area.in kansas two bucks killed scored 220 mule deer and 210 whitetail.i myself in three days of hunting saw two bucks over two hundred score shooting a three and a half year old 170 net 5x5 whitetail.60 percent of the bucks from that ranch make the boone and crockett.in eastern wyoming black hills 150 class deer a routinely killed for1000 dollar trespass fees the season last the entire month of november . in nebraska secret area 160 class bucks are routinely taken on trespass hunts with a two buck limit you can look for 170 class animal on your second buck tags are over the counter.

RE: Whitetail Hunting Place
BuckFever1316 I would say to come up here to Saskatchewan and hunt some true giants. As for people saying 16 is too young I disagree take a look at the pics on the link and you'll see 13 and 14 yr old girls taking trophy bucks http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/saskhunting/
As a hunter and avid fisherman Saskatchewan is great, not many people and huge deer both monster whitetails and muledeer. Cheers!! |
