RE: HOW to roll in the BIG BOYS
Don't try to roll em in......
Get yourself set up where they will roll on their own. Get off the field edges and open woods and get in the areas that mature bucks will move during light. Thats usually the thick ugly stuff close to where they bed. |
RE: HOW to roll in the BIG BOYS
That and when the rut comes around be where the does are. Don't take the first 6 pointer that cruises by.

RE: HOW to roll in the BIG BOYS
I agree with rack get to where he calls home and feels safe. When you find these places calls, rattling, etc will be much more effective. However sometimes is best to wait him out and only the guy hunting those woods can make that call. I say when in doubt head deep and don't say a peep!!
Do some off season scouting, those who put in the time will be rewarded eventually! Does are a good bet during certain times of year but his safe grounds/bedding area will produce throughout all times of the year. Not saying the advice of hunting does isn't a good one, cuz it is during the right time. Just don't throw all your eggs into the rut basket, as it can be highly unpredictable(I view it as feast or famine). |
RE: HOW to roll in the BIG BOYS
Hunt when other people don't. Most big boys are shot between 10 and 2 in the afternoon. You have to be willing to sit all day for days.

RE: HOW to roll in the BIG BOYS
Ive said it once so here goes again, Tribal is right, at the beginning of the season i hunt does not to kill but find out where they travel, a doe is fairly predictible, then leave them alone and wait for the rut and hunt where the does are

RE: HOW to roll in the BIG BOYS
Pass up the small ones and hunt where the big guys are.

RE: HOW to roll in the BIG BOYS
definitely hunt the thick stuff. especially if you can find an lone apple tree or something in the middle of a thicket. that can be a gold mine year round. in the early season you can even pattern a buck. catch em in the summer feeding pattern and mount em wit their summer red coat.
