Default Homemade Covered Deer Feeding Trough

New member here. Does anyone have some plans for a home-made, covered feeding trough? I guess the main questions are what height should the feed be and how far above the feed should the cover be so it doesn't intefere with bucks? Some pictures would be great! Thanks for any info.

The best and easiest feeder we ever made hardley cost a dime. We took an empty wire spool (you can get these for free from the local electric or telephone company). We then wrapped the spool with wire fencing, leaving a door to fill it. Then just slide a pole through the center and mount it between 2 trees. It works great and it hardley cost a nickel.

Reinike,

The easiest I've ever seen used was a 50 gallon drum bolted to a forklift flat or piece of plywood. I would think that the reason it was bolted to the would was to keep it from being knocked over. The drum had a removalable top with lock ring. It had a hole cut on the side, at the bottom. The hole was cut in a triangle shape and I don't think the shape of the hole would make a difference. The hole was only about 4 inches high, and I would think, the bigger the hole, the more feed it would dispense.

I've also seen them built out of plywood and/or cypress and the bottom was on the ground and the feed ran out onto the wood bottom.

The one I saw was on a farm and there was deer tracks everywhere around it.
