Looking for best Whitetail Outfitter...

My dad is looking to go on a trip this coming fall and I suggested going for a big whitetail. We've already got a couple in the 150 range, but he wants to go somewhere that can consistently produce 170+ bucks. And I'm not talking about game farms. If you guys have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. We have looked into Jim Shockey's place and so far that looks like it's as good as it gets.

I've heard great things about Jim Shockey's camp, seen
pics of some great bucks taken there.

Depending on the definition...I'm not so sure there is a
place that will consistently put out 170+/B & C bucks.
I know some highly skilled deerhunters, that hunt prime
land, and most would consider a B&C buck a buck of a
lifetime. I'd be curious to know what the ratio in Shockey's
camp is - hunters to B&C bucks taken??

Anyway, if it were me I'd head to Canada[:-], with the mindset
it may take more than one trip. Best of luck and let us know
what you find out.

Try sandhills high country in western nebraska , they shot a deer that score 170 and saw another one the same size,
here is there website www.sandhillshighcountry.com
but finding an outfitter where they average 170 probably isn't going to
happen anywhere

I think you are going to be hard pressed to find a palce where there are 170" consistantly. Very few deer even have the genetics to get that big. Overall, I think the choice that you have made is best. However, he may just want to pass those 150"'s that he has been killing and try to shoot one (a 170") at home. That way he can go on a hunt for ELK... it's pretty easy to get them over 170" consistantly!:) Good luck. TGK

I vote either Sask or Pike county Illinois. Just do some researh and look around however, others are right, you'll be hard pressed to find an outfitter with 170+ on a regular basis.

What about this outfitter. I looked around a little and this looks pretty good to me.

DNA Guiding in Northern Saskatchewan is worth a look. Dave is very experienced in both guiding and outfitting, he is a top notch guy and runs a great outfit. His area is producing great averages and good number of top caliber heads going 170 or better
Another is Harley Nault at Martineau River Outfitters, who is constantly ranking number 1 or 2 in gross score for the whitetails he hauls in and like the others runs a top notch camp.

However be prepared to be on a waiting list with most good outfitters here, it is really rare any top camp would have openings for 04'.

Skeeter, does DNA Guiding have a website? I've been searching around for it and can't find anything.

James, I have an outfitter business in Pike Co., Illinois.

I have been running hunts for 5 full seasons now. With well over 100 bucks harvested, to date my hunters have killed exactly 2 bucks that net over 170".
We have a bunch in the 150-165 range.

Many legitimate sightings over 170", but killing them is a different story.

I would guess that Canada would be a better bet for a gun hunter.
