I have one. Paid 350 bucks for it and its a great gun. Mine is chambered for the .270 and i love it. Just havent had a chance to take it huntin yet mainly because where i hunt i cant use a rifle. But i think i was 13 or 14 when i got mine.

I would spend the extra money and get a Model Seven or a 700 you won't be sorry in the long run...[:o]

There are beter choices out there fro around the same money. The rem 710 leaves a lot to be desired ( most who will follow this post will actually call them junk). If money is an issue get a NEF single shot it's by far better made than the 710. for "cheap" bolt actions look into Savage, Howa, and rem 700 at Wally World.

RE: model 710

I had a model 710 for a year and a half before trading it in on a Remington 700. The bolt was very cheaply made and the trigger was the pits.
Remington should do themselves a favor and stop manufacturing that rifle.

Mine almost tranformed me from a "Fan of Remington" to a "Fan of anything BUT Remington". Luckily, their customer service department took excellent care of me so I'm once again a happy Remington customer.

Have you ever heard the old saying "Ya get whatcha pay for."? Thats the 710 in a nut shell. If you want a gun he can get use to shooting, get something like a Model 7 youth gun or a Ruger youth model. The 710 is a POS that has a junkyard trigger and a sloopy bolt. The 700 model has well made it's mark for being an outstanding firearm. They took a left turn on the 710.

i think... to be honest with u... i think the 710 is a good gun because i have shot shotgun stalkers plenty of times and i dont think its a crappy gun at all... and for a 13 yr old i believe it would be a good gun!

I have one in 30-06. Paid about $260 for it. As far as one to hunt with in the rain, etc I believe it is a good deal.
