This years dink
Heres the deer I had to settle for as I only had three days of the season left, I did come across some bigger ones earlier, kinda wish I would of shot them now, but at least I filled my deer tag. Bobby :)

RE: This years dink
Thanks guys, I don't know if you can see the G-3 on the left side but it was broken off and it also had a 2" tear in its right ear from a fight a day or two prior to me getting it. I also saw this one during bow traveling with a 5 pointer that I wanted but I could never pull him out of the thickets. Seeing bucks aren't really too difficult, but like everyone else you try to hold out till the last moment in hopes to pop a bigger one. Its just dissapointing seeing bigger ones and like a dipship, hold in waiting for a bigger one. Dugh!!
Aught six, the gun is a Remington 700 30-06 with Wialliams sights using 180 gr. corelokts. Double lung shot, went 50 yrds and drowned in its own blood. I know 180's are an over kill but I use them for elk or bear so its a pain to change back and forth all the time. I should of been using my 870 with slugs because my furthest shot may have been 70 yrds and thick as heck. Mow em down, I'm going to be selfish and keep em, I know you guys in Virginia have no shortage of deer.;) Thanks guys, Bobby |
RE: This years dink
I'd take a "dink" like that one any day. Nice Buck.
|
RE: This years dink
Better Buck that i have evr shot, 'course that is likely because i have only had 1 deer season.;)
|
RE: This years dink
Wish I could just see one that big Great Kill!!!!!:D[:o]
|
RE: This years dink
thats a nice buck.No shame in that one
|
RE: This years dink
Excellence choice, I must say. Yeah, the 180 gr. cartridges are a bit much, but you've got an excellent (and all-important) point about the switching dilemma. Being a new hunter, I stick to the 700 ADL .30-06 with 150 gr. softpoints here in Virginia, and an 870 Wingmaster with 1 oz. rifled slugs in Maryland. Great combination for whitetail.

RE: This years dink
Shoot, I wish that was the kind of dinks that I got! That is a nice buck by my meat hunting standards. Don't get me wrong, I love the horns to have on the wall, but I like the deer in my belly a lot better!:D
|
RE: This years dink
I would definetly settle for that one ,he's not a bad looking deer at all.

RE: This years dink
121553 he may not be a monster, but he is not a dink! Of course being in Montana and seeing some of the deer killed there I guess you could call it a dink!;) What did he dress out at?
|
RE: This years dink
;) Plinkin a dink. Good dinkin big guy. Most times when we let bucks pass we get a bit remorseful about doing so. It gets a little more so as the days pass and your tag remains in your hip pocket. Been there, many a time but at least you had a real decent looking buck return for his destiny. Nice end to your season.

|
RE: This years dink
Not a dink by my standards. Congrats! I'd be real pleased to bag something like that in our woods.
|
RE: This years dink
Nice dink!:D

RE: This years dink
Thanks guys, with only three days in the season you sometimes tend to put some pressure on yourself as if your actually going to fill your tag and at the same time kick yourself for letting others go. Your only allowed one tag so you want it to be a good one, but wait too long, your going to be eating tag-soup:(.
Taz not sure what he weighed in at, but I couldn't get him in my truck by myself, after I shot him I hiked back to the truck, and got the tobaggon and loaded him on it and started dragging it through the snow, Whew, I will say it was a job and the meat does't come free by any means. Aught six, 150 gr. are an excellent choice if your strickly hunting deer, the deer up here are usually bigger than the ones back east so I have to compromise with the big game and deer and use the 180's. Thanks again guys and wait till next year,;) Good luck guys, Bobby |
RE: This years dink
Nice Buck and Congrat's. I would take him anytime.;)
I also shoot the 180 grain in a 30-06. Puts em down everytime!;) |

RE: This years dink
Bambikiller. can't you tell by the picture that I'm a dink too ;) You guys are great, but its kinda like kissin your sister or taken the pimple face girl to the prom when you coulda had the prom queen, don't get me wrong, I feel blessed that the land granted me the rewards, but sometimes you wonder who beat who, I was so exhausted by the end of the season, my tongue was hanging outta my mouth too.
In persuit of this deer the snow was about 18" deep maybe 2 ft in places and signs and scrapes in the snow, very easy even for a blind man to find, the dang deer would come in and feed on the moss on the trees that had blown over or fell , when the ground was covered with snow, these fall downs were the only source of food for these deer and they would make a trail to these blow downs, so I took advantage of this as many does and smaller bucks would feed around, it was the peak of the rut and evidence of it all around and I knew I was in primo country but it was a matter of being there at the right time, I got this one mid-afternoon, and I earned every pound of it .[:-] Bobby |
RE: This years dink
