Don't know about the deer as there are no pictures but that story is one of the worst pieces of journalism I have ever read, well, seeing it came from a NJ newspaper I understand.[X(].

We took 9 bucks at our club in 03 and the weight ranges were from 102---128. The biggest buck that we have taken at our club in NW NJ is 148lbs by me in 1997.

South Jersey produces small buck in body but decent rack size.

i have never seen a nice racked buck that weighed any less than 150 lbs. on the hoof. i dunno about you south jersey guys. this is either just another "record" rumor or the weight is wrong. i will believe it when i see it.

Well if I'm going to judge this story soley on the facts as put forth by the original poster, with a follow up picture to back it up from another source I'd be inclined to say it looks to me like NJ has a new non-typical muzzle loader record..easily. S

KoBear, you may never see it, and I don't know where you hunt, but I can tell you here in South Jersey, in the 'Pine Barrens' as we call them, a mature (4-5 yr old) buck often weighs in right around 100 pounds dressed. Where my family hunts an really big doe goes 80 pounds or so. I have killed does that didn't make 70 pounds dressed that had fawns with them. Of course there are areas where they get bigger, but around here no one blinks when they here of an 8 or 10 pointer with a nice rack that weighs 100 or so pounds.

RE: Possible NJ Muzzleloader Record

South Jersey is nothing but pines and sand and thousands of acres of it. Alot of land for deer to escape hunters and grow old, but no agricultural crops like corn and soy beans to feed on. A deer from the "pines" that weighs over 100 pounds is a brute.
