777 vs pyrodex
I just got a T/C Omega for christmas and will be using pellets instead of the powder. I am new to muzzleloaders and would like to know the differences and advantages of using 777 or pyrodex. I think they are about the same cost.
Alos suggestions on bullets for whitetails and a scope ($200) for the gun. Thanks. |
RE: 777 vs pyrodex
From Hogdon's 2004 load magazine, 777 is less dense so you have figure out the volume eqiuvalent to blackpowder or pyrodex. They give an example that a 100gr blackpowder load would equal 76gr of 777. 777 is also cleaner than pyrodex or bp and produces better velocity, so the article states.

RE: 777 vs pyrodex
I'd use the 777 in loose form.

RE: 777 vs pyrodex
My buddy got an Omega recently and used two 777 pellets and a 295 grain Powerbelt Aerotips. He said he was right on at 100 yards sighting it in and couldn't have been more pleased.

I'm using 90 grains of loose 777 and 250 grain QT spitzer sabots and am getting quarter sized groups at a hundred yards..... I recommend loose 777 too...... Kindest Regards, -Will in Maryland |
RE: 777 vs pyrodex
i have a traditions lightning but i was shooting pyrodex pellets then this year i started useing 777 and i love it i can clean my gun with just water now and its alot easier to clean too and it was shooting fine for me i use 3 50gr. pellets so 150 grains of 777 and a 50cal powerbelt and im very happy with the way my gun shoots and i think ill stick to the 777 over my regular pyrodex im mostly happy with how easily it cleans up over the old stuff
