yep, every year i am out there. i got a pretty good sized collection. found my first one behind my house three years ago while purposefully looking for sheds, and the rest is history. i dont start looking until the end of march. normally i take my b-day off of school, (Mar. 30) and spend all day searching for some racks. go to my website to see some of my sheds. including two sheds that score between 60-70 inches a piece. i have found some pretty interesting racks, including some spike racks. lol. go to my website to see pics. theyre under "sheds"

Thats a nice collection you have there. That is also the largest spike rack I have saw as well. Good eye to see all those spike drops too.

Too much snow on the ground and still too early yet. I saw a 4 pointer yesterday. When there is just a trace of snow during the spring is when I can spot them real easily. Bobby;)
P.S. Just forgot that the moose do loose theirs around in January.

Never hunted for sheds before. Thought I'd give it a try this year any tips on where to start looking (ie. fence lines, fields, creek bottoms, etc.)?

nyflyer, I have found most of my shed by starting on the food source and back trailing to bedding areas. Some lay out in the open while other drop off in the woods. If deer yard up in your area for the winter than this process may not be as broad, concentrate on large numbers and work back from there.

Love shed hunting, but still to early as I have seen loads of bucks still carring the dress on top. In another month or so things will start dropping and i'll be out searching.

Here's a pic of Crabbie's Shed ( I found last year):

Already found the set of a small 6 this year, my cousin shot a "doe" today that turned out to be a buck that had already dropped, my biggest shed is one antler with 5 points, it scored like in the mid 60's im thinkin, it came from chillicothe ohio

RE: Any shed hunters????

so is that considered a buck or doe??? I mean it's a male but no antlers, tech... it's doe... right?? Just wondering.[:'(]

RE: Any shed hunters????

if it has male genitalia it's a buck hello:D:D:D:D

this is why the states sell antlerless/antlered tags, not buck/doe tags

There was actually a doe taken south of here with a huge rack of 17 non typical points in full velvet. She was examined by a Texas Parks and Wildlife biologist and no male err plumbing was found and she had all the equipment of a doe, so not a hermaphrodite. A hormonal inbalance in the extreme was TPW's hypothosis. It was in the newspaper about a month ago. Very bizzare. Guy had seen it and was watching it all last season. She never shed, but continued to grow all summer. He notified TPW before he shot it and they were with him the whole time, so no BS.

My previous post I mentioned that I saw a 4 pointer still supporting his head gear, yesterday I found out from a guy down the mountain that he found a pair of 4pts at the base of his drive where a fence is, it appeared the deer had jump the fence and both sides fell off at impact, man these were huge, so yes they seem to be in the process of dropping them now. That is a unique shed you found skeeter. Did you look for the match after you found it. I have yet to find a matched set.

I think I'll give it a shot this year. A good reason to take my boys out in the woods and get a better feel for the land I have been hunting.

I looked long and hard for the matcher for crabbie but never found it:( Yes I have found quite a few matching sets over the years but still a lot of singles. Crabbie is still alive and I saw him (I think) saturday night while scouting, so I still have hope of finding one of his matched set;)

I need to get out there and start looking now. Skeeter, you need to start hunting your buddy Old Crabbie now. I would hate to think of someone else getting that monster if I had found that shed. Thats awsome.

Here is a photo of some of my sheds and pickup skulls also. I mostly shed hunt here in Illinois but I also shed hunt my mothers property in Montana.

The earlyist I have found sheds here in Illinois is Jan 22nd, although a friend did harvest a large P&Y 8 pointer last week and when dragging him out by the antlers the antlers came off, he is pissed to say the least[:o]:(

This is a photo of a set of sheds I found and I mounted them to a buck road kill skull that had already shed his antlers.
