Here is the real pic of the buck I got this year, a small racked 7 point with a large body, he dressed at about 160. My twins are the ones holding him because the pics they took of me with the buck were partially blocked by an unknown young ladies pink coat sleeve!

Yea the kids were really pumped, it is the biggest one I have killed that they can remember, if I get that big 6 pointer they will see what a real big deer looks like. May you and yours have a merry and safe Christmas also.

trophyhuntr he has a very long way to go before he could get mounted, until I at least match one I killed in 74 or 75 I will not be doing anymore mounting unless I get a nice buck with my bow.

Rack he was pretty old, on the downhill side, he had a lot of grey and his back was swayed, he probably would have had a lot nicer rack 2-3 years ago. He makes some pretty good jerky and an excellent meat loaf last night. I haven't had any backstrap or loins yet, saving the best for last or until I pop another one this year, I have until Jan. 3, its buck or doe and I am looking to fill the freezer this year. (I hope);)

It's always a shame when the bucks are out of their prime, isn't it. I would still have to say that it's a respectable buck with a lot of meat. Isn't that what it's all about anyway? I'm glad to see just how happy your daughters are about this deer. It shows just how much excitement that they can bring to this sport. Congratulations on a nice deer.

NEB I hate to see them beyond their prime, but as you said, lots of meat and the kids were psyched, next year will be their first season with a gun in their hands, I am sure I will be more excited about anything they kill then any deer I have ever killed.

I think that they will do great. It sounds like you are truly a skilled hunter. I am sure that some of this may have passed down to your daughters. How long have they been going out with you? Wish them good luck from all of us here on the board for next year.

NEB I have no doubt that they will get their first deer, I hope next season will be the one, the only thing I worry about is after they have downed one with their own hands how they will handle it. Actually I consider myself a persistant hunter with a bit of skill. They have been scouting and sitting on stand with me during gun season for 2 years now, they have drug, dressed, skinned and butchered deer, they have not been in on a kill yet, I hope at least one of them can be in on one befroe the end of this season.

NY Bowhunter the wind was blowing a gale after the sun went down that day, I was glad I had him drug out and in the truck before it started.

Rack he had a little bit of mass, but nothing I would call even close to impressive.

Good luck to you on your remaining tags. I'm sure that they will be ecstatic after seeing their dad take down a nice deer. It will bring the experience full circle for them. The first deer, I think you always react a little negatively about, but then you realize just how much of an impact that hunters make and realize that if we weren't here controlling the population, the deer numbers would increase beyond the carrying capacity and there would be far too many deer/vehicle collisions and more disease adn death of these fine animals. We, as hunters, keep nature in check. You may just have to prod the girls a little bit more after their first kill, or they may the exact opposite and may want to take another one right away. Heck, they may even want to take your deer. That's always the shame of it all.

NEB they would be excited about a doe which unless it is the big 6 point is what I am hoping to get, a whole lot better eating. I know some folks think I am crazy for wanting a 6 pointer, but you would have to see this one to beleive it, and yes he is a natural 6 point and is at least 6 1/2 years old.

Heck, if this buck's as big as what you're talking about, I think that any of us would love to take one like that. Good luck on getting him. Hopefully he will be in your truck before the end of the year. I suppose you don't happen to have any pictures of him, do you? If so, I would love to see this monster.

Congrats on your buck. I would like to see a pic with Tazman "the hunter" in it though. he, he He who says that your crazy for taking that buck is confused. If the buck is on it's way down, there is absolutely no shame taking an animal like that. Taking "mature" animals is the name of the game. Once again, congrats!!

Nice buck.

I just can't comprehend having a deer reach 6 1/2 years of age around where I hunt. Just way too much pressure. Be thankful for that area that allows them to get that old.
