Dream Whitetail Hunts
Just dreaming....
If you are like me, raising a family and on a budget, distant hunting trips are only dreams for now! What would your ultimate Whitetail Trophy trip be? I feel fortunate to have great hunting available nearby here in Texas, but my ultimate trip would probably be to Saskatawan (Sp.?). It would be a totally different experience with a good chance at a true trophy buck. I do love the South Texas terrain and climate though, so it would be a close second! Also what would you use? I love bow hunting, but for a once in a lifetime chance, I'd have to pick my 7MM mag! |

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
Frank my ultimate hunt would be on my own property. Sounds silly in a way, but I may have that come true this coming year, went out yesterday and looked at a piece of property with a beautiful stream running through it in a pretty steep ravine. Almost the whole place is hardwoods. I only got to spend about 45 minutes poking around and the place was full of deer sign.

These Kansas folks are posting some great deer lately. I think Canada would be great too.

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
Hmmmm, my dream hunt. Well, my dream hunt would be anywhere that bucks are plentyfull and I am the only person there.
Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^) |
RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
My dream whitetail hunt would be in one of three places, Saskatchewan, Kansas, or Iowa. I would give almost anything to hunt in one of these places.

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
My biggest goal as a hunter is to tag a buck that dresses over 200 pounds. A few of my buddies have done this here at home. It has yet to happen to Jimmy S. I know I can invest time and money to increase the odds in this happening, but personally, I would rather stay right where I am and concentrate on fulfilling my dream right here in New Hampshire and Maine.

Ultimate whitetail hunting spot?...bowhunting, just down the road about 30 minutes...I do it every fall and believe me, I feel very lucky...wouldn't trade it for anything.
Now I do have a dream hunt...bowhunting moose in Canada or Alaska......maybe someday. TB |

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
I'd have to agree with you Tazman. You can pay as much as you'd like to hunt big deer in any part of the country. But, taking a trophy animal on my own property through sound management, a great deal of invested time, and persistence would be a dream come true. A change of scenery would be nice at some point, though, too.

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
There's about 250 acrea's of unhunted river bottom land that is literally a sanctuaryfor deer...over by one of my hunting spots. Nobody can hunt it. I see so many world class bucks on that land. Most everytime I drive by there, I usually see one. It's an unbelievable spot. Most everyhunter in the county drools on it. It would be my dream spot to hunt.

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
I grew up in saskatchewan and have lived in alberta for the past 21 years and have hunted deer in both provinces for many years. We don't have high deer densities like the southern states but the size of the deer does make up for it.Due to low hunting pressure many deer live to maturity and bucks often exceed 300 lbs live weight. There is no such thing as a deer lease here and unless you want to hunt near a city permission is easy to get and costs nothing.

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
Well, I already hunt in pike co., illinois every year, so my dream hunt would be kansas, saskatchewan, or alberta.
|
RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
Stay home, we have 200lb + deer and the horns are bigger every year. Must be all the bean fields and crp. dream about it every day.
|
RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
I'd love to have my own piece of real estate that would be in the right location and big enough to hunt too! In that case it would probably be somewhere in South Texas.

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
Taz I agree with you. In fact I had my dream hunt come true this past year. I harvested a 153 5/8 P&Y buck on my own land in N.Y. We have been under a QDM program that I implemented 5 yrs. ago when we bought the farm. My buck was 4 1/2 yrs. old and field dressed 195 lbs. I wouldn't have traded that hunt for anything. Although I would like to one day hunt Wi., or Ks.

RE: Dream Whitetail Hunts
My dream hunts are anytime I see deer, doesn't matter where, also enjoy everytime I get to hunt with my father. I agree with others though, seeing deer on own property is the best.
