Hi BigBuckFrenzy10,

My dad owns a Marlin chambered in .32 Winchester Special. I killed my first buck with that rifle when I was 12. Ballistically it is identical to the .30-30 Winchester. (It uses a slightly larger diameter bullet that starts a few feet per second faster than a like-weight bullet from a .30-30. But within the first 100 yards the better sectional density of the .30-30 bullet has "caught up" with the bullet from the .32 Winchester Special.) The killing power of either...is identical!

The .32 Special has declined in popularity immensely in just my lifetime, (I'm not saying;)). But if your buddy's .32 is still accurate enough to place a bullet in a deer's vitals within 150 to 200 yards....it works very well on deer and black bear sized animals.

If you'd like to know more?

Hope this helps!

Essentially, it is a 30-30 with a larger diameter bullet .311 as opposed to 308. Yes, it is a good a deer cartridge as one will find in a Winchester Model 94 levergun.

Hi again BigBuckFrenzy10,

You never need be ashamed of your equipment....as long as you use it well and ethically! Don't ever let anyone tell you different either. The .32 Winchester Special is a classic...and has an honorable history.

Remember the most important part of the equipment....is the person using it:).

Continued success in all you do!

As akbound states, don't be ashamed of your equipment, if it works for you, it works. The only person you need to impress is you. At one of my stands I use nothing but a .45ACP with patridge sights. 100% clean kills and all within 30 yards (I know my gun and my limits) but I get a lot of ribbing from my hand gun hunting group, and a lot of lectures from the "experts" (those who know all about it but have never hunted with a handgun). As said above you have a fine gun and it is doing a good job for "you" and it appears you know what your doing. Good jub.
