Poll on hunting a continent
What do you guys think? I don't think that I could ever hunt a continent such as Australia. After all the animals can't get away! I realize that Australia is big, but what about the animals near the edge. They don't have free range. This is not fair chase to me.
I guess when you think about it, there area really no areas on earth that really have no boundaries of some sort (water, desert, cities, mountains, open fields, etc). There are always some boundaries somewhere, so I guess there are really no fair chase hunts. There are NATURAL barriers everywhere! Darn!!! So if we build a high fence along the Mexico border and one along the Canadian border, the whole US will be "high fenced", so lots of guys won't feel right about hunting anywhere here. If size really doesn't matter, then what I have said is true, right? Or maybe, just maybe, is it really just the idea of a high fence that some can't get passed. I can understand that! You have a right to yell: "I HATE HIGH FENCES!!!" You HATE any ARTIFICIAL barrier. But I can't really see how you can really believe that size doesn't matter and it isn't free range/fair chase no matter how many acres. No matter how big??? Come on, be honest: you just detest, hate, despise, ...... high fences in any shape or form, and you have a right to your opinion, but every one of you knows that if you were hunting on a 100,000 acre high fenced ranch for truely wild animals, it wouldn't be any easier than if the fence wasn't there. |
RE: Poll on hunting a continent
???? isn't their a 8 page thread going on this already???? I am not sure what the point is of starting your own now..but all the power to yeah!
All I am saying is slice and dice it anyway you want a fence around the poperty is different then an ocean(s) around a country. Whatever floats your canoe. |
RE: Poll on hunting a continent
I think this topic is pretty much exhausted.
It boils down to the differences between states. |
RE: Poll on hunting a continent
I've always wanted to get a bunch of drivers and them line up on the Mexican border and be able to take a stand somewhere about the Panama Canal and let the drivers go south. Bet I could get a good shot at a dandy Mexican buck......:D

RE: Poll on hunting a continent
Ok take a good look at this picture. I have tons of video of absolute monster bucks from this place as well. I am talking up to 170 class bucks. Where is this pic and all my other pics and video taken. Thats right, right along the HIGH FENCE. Do you think I would have video and pictures of these deer if there was no fence there? I am willing to bet I wouldn't. If you want to hut a high fence go for it and good luck!! Me on the other hand will stick to my free rangeing whitetails. Good luck.

Timber:
Great idea! I will get some guys lined up. When do you want to do it? Buckeye: 1) I saw a buck that good on my low fenced ranch last weekend. It all depends on what you kill on your hunting area and what is killed around it. 2) Your point is well made. THERE WOULD NOT BE BUCKS THAT GOOD WITHOUT THE HIGH FENCE. That is because they can control the harvest behind that fence, not because the animals are not wild and freeranging. If the fence wasn't there, someone would be killing those bucks before they every reached the age of that buck in the photo. As many have said, to each his own, but you won't ever convince me that deep down you guys don't know the difference between hunting a 100 acre high fence and a 10,000 acre one. One is a canned hunt and the other isn't and you know it. |

One is a canned hunt and the other isn't and you know it. The pic is taken from a 21,427 acre area in north east ohio. These 21,427 acres are the same ones the "hole in the horn" was found. Interesting fact- During WWII this was the the largest arms producing site in the nation. But wheter it be 21,427 acres or 100 acres, it just doesn't fly with me. |

Where is this place where the deer are, is it huntable or is it an arms depot or what |
RE: Poll on hunting a continent
I was kind of curious about this in the beginning, but man almighty, three different threads on the same thing!!! I have seen at least that many, maybe more on high fences.
Timbercruiser, I'm in as well for the long drive across Mexico. It could be fun. just make sure that you don't drink the water!!!! You know, after thiking about it, would you really want to shoot the deer and eat its meat if the water is really that bad??? My guess is that it's just talk. |
RE: Poll on hunting a continent
Stick around NEB. This issue comes up at least 2-3 times a year, so if you think you are tired of it now......!

RE: Poll on hunting a continent

RE: Poll on hunting a continent
Trophyhntr,
It is an arms depot in north east ohio. Trumbull and portage counties. It used to have controlled hunts but were stopped after 9/11. I heard they may start them up again, I don't know though. |
RE: Poll on hunting a continent
buckeye
what is a controlled hunt, but who cares if they start back up and you see alot of 170 class deer, let me know im in, bow, rifle, pool stick, sling shot, can the military pen these deer in legally,HMMMM. oh yeah i am tough with a boomer-rang also, no hard feelings about the past i hope |
RE: Poll on hunting a continent
What I know of it is it used to be bow only and you had to pass a shooting test and high scorers of the test were granted in first then so on down the line as long as they passed the exam. Then they changed it to a "controlled" shotgun only hunt a few years back. No muzzleloaders, rifles, hand guns or bows shotgun only. A controlled hunt is you have to apply for a special limited drawing conducted by the ohio department of natural resources. I know you are assigned a designated area and are ******ed into and out of it. If you leave the area you are assigned I know its big trouble. I don't know many details I have never looked into it. I just know from what I have heard or read in our local sportsman papers.
Also I have no hard or Ill feelings towards you in any way from any or our debates. That is how I look at all of our disagreements just debates. Just because we have had some heated issues doesn't mean you or I for that matter aren't "good" people it just means we have different outlooks and opinions on touchy subjects. Thats one thing that makes the board so great, lots of opinions from alot of different people. |
