What are some good food sources during the late season? There is this alafla field that has green in it. I am not sure if the deer a feeding on it havent been out in a few days.

Deer will feed on alfalfa as long as they can get at it, also, any other leftovers from harvesting corn and beans. Any leftover acorns will be hit. If the weather isn't too bitter, they'll go a long way to get at them. If the weather gets particularly nasty, they'll stay out of the wind and work on browse.

I like hunting thicker areas much more than field edges or open woods. With that being said if all the acorns and mast crops have been eaten already I would look for a current clear or select cut operation. Deer in my area like to heavly feed on the left over tree tops. Especialy with the gun seasons going on or just ending, the deer arent going to be frequenting the open fields for a while yet. I have had good luck hunting these areas even while they are actively logging the area still. After the workers leave the deer start showing up at their normal evening feeding times to browse on the fresh tree tops.

I've been watching alot of deer in a wheat field the past week. I've seen anywhere from a single buck to 8 does in this particular field the four times I've drove by in the last week and half.
