Your Next Deer Rifle/

Many of you are most likely like me and are always thinking about that new next deer rifle. My next one will be a Marlin Lever action in one of the pistol calibers. 44 mag, 45 long colt or 41 mag. Or maybe a Ruger 44 Mag auto loader.

Same here--I have a long list that will probably last into the next four or five years, unless I win the lottery. :D Next up for me is a flintlock Kentucky Rifle from Cabela's. I'll probably end up buying my wife a Rem 700 ADL .270 first, but technically that's on her list.

If I did not already have too many that are close to it, my next would definetly be the 7MM-08! So, my next will probably be a .243 or .260!

I am quite happy with my current Remington 700 Mountain in 30.06, although it packs a heck of a punch.

I dont see myself replacing it anytime soon.

Marlin 1895 in 45-70.
The long version, not the Guide version.
I already have a Marlin 1894 in 44 magnum.

I won't be buying a new gun for a long time. Might get a flintlock. Will probably be getting a new bow soon though.

i think it will be my 12 mossberg 500 with a rifled slug barrel....got the gun....got the barrel.....i need a replacement small game gun and a scope and all that for the slug gun....i need something for close in and foul weather....i know my shotgun will handle it......i think thats my next deer gun.....but i held a SWEET feeling mauser 98k in 8mm with peep sights and a sweet feeling stock....it fit me like a glove......all the serial numbers match but it was rebarreled i believe......if it had the original barrel it would be mine.......and all the markings were taken off.....i think ill just wait for my next mauser....and build my own..... but man i dont know....if i play with that one again i might walk out with it.......but i think ill go with the 12ga slugger first.....i been wanting a good small game gun.....the mossbergs great but its big and heavy....make a good deer rifle......we will see......

Been shooting my Rem .270 for almost 30 years and it has never failed me. It will probably outlast me.

I have hunted deer with many guns but I have now settled on a couple of customs chambered in 7mmstw.I see no gun or cartridge more suited to my style of hunting so I have no plans on buying any more guns for deer hunting.

There's only one gun I need to complete my personal collection and it's not for deer hunting, it's an over/under 12ga.

A marlin 44 mag rifle was my next choice of deer gun a few years ago. It has been so much fun. I may have to add a revolver now to keep it company:D

I have the 700 ADL synthetic in .30-06; I swear by it. It's a great rifle for the price. It's just under 7½ lbs. and has a 1" recoil pad, so I barely feel the push with 150 gr. Rem factory loads. The Mountain's equally good, but mine already feels really light to me, so I'll stick with it.

Actually, I cannot foresee me getting anothe rifle for deerhunting. However, I may pick up a rifled shotgun barrel to use with my Remington 870 for deer next season.

I went from an 03A3 30.06 to the Remington Mountain. Recoil was never a factor when shooting the old Springfield. But when i pulled the trigger the first time on the 700 it hammered me hard. I ended up getting a Pachmeyer Decelerator for it but it still hits pretty hard.

Overall it is a very good gun though, easy to carry and handle and looks awesome with the black/grayish laminated stock.

I'll be looking for a great deal on a used, beat up Savage 110 with a shot out barrel and a beat up stock with a decent Leupold on top. Hopefully I can get a good deal. I plan on swapping out the stock with an after market synthetic and then replacing the barrel with a Midway package Adams & Bennett barrel in 338/06. It will round out the upper end of my mid-bore rifles. Then again I might just shop for a decent used 338 Win Mag in good shape.

If we are talking a rifle for me I really like my Savage 30-06 but would love to come across a model 99 .308 lever action. I had a chance to buy one about 12 years ago for $150 and didn't know what I was passing up. For shotguns, I am leaning toward a mossberg 500. I know it doesn't have the polish of a remington or winchester but I have always liked the performance. Most likely though, I will buy a .270 or a 30-30 the next time I see a good deal on one and put it away for one of my boys to use when he is old enough.

My wife thinks im nuts for wanting another/more
I said something about my collection to a coworker once, and he couldn't understand why anyone would need more than one gun. He didn't seem to grasp the concept of "the right tool for the right job". I guess some people think a .22LR is an all-purpose gun. He was a DC native, so that probably had a lot to do with it.

If i dont get a bow, than i will probably go with a ruger 30'06 or 25 '06.Just got a new ruger 270 this past year so i dont know if i need another new toy, mom would probably flip, but we'll have to see

Well, let's see... I've got my Knight .50 cal, my Remington 12 gauge, my .270 in M700, and my new .300 Win Mag Tikka WHM. I guess if anything, I'm gonna have to go smaller and lighter... something like a .25-06, .257, .260, or 7mm-08 in a small, light bolt action. That'd be fun to shoot. :D

My next rifle will definately be a 260 rem. I'm waiting to see what Remington is going to chamber the 2004 classic in and i've heard hints that it might be the 260 but thats just hear say. If they do i'll have one but if not i still want a 260 but i don't know which gun i''ll buy.

I started originally with a 30-30 Winchester, then upgraded to a 30-30 Marlin lever-action. Nice brush guns, but terrible after 125 yards or so. I bought a Weatherby 30-06 three years ago and have since taken 3 bucks (1 per year) with one shot each. All but one, was out 150 yards or more. I don't expect to get anything again for a while.

I already have a Winchester 94 so I will be looking for something with longer reach. I'm leaning toward the NEF handi-rifle in either 270 or 30-06. The wife also wants a gun for herself so she can start going with me and I'm going to have to buy one for my son this year too. I'll stick them with one of the smaller calibers like 243, 260, or 7-08. NEFs are the only way I'll be able to afford to buy so many guns in one year.

My Browning BAR in 7mm Mag has done a excellent job so far, but I cant help but want one of the WSM or WSSM! So my next rifle will probably be a Browning A-Bolt in the 7mm WSM.

My next gun will be a Thompson/Contender in .17 Remington with a 15" bull barrel. I've killed a few does with my buddies and I love it! That's a mean little dude the .17!

MYKEY. The Remington Classic for 2004 is going to be the 8x57 mauser. Just saw it on the Remington site or Guns and Ammo.

James...thanks for the update, i had my fingers crossed but thats the way it goes. I've been looking for a Remington chambered in 260 like the one they use to make. I don't want a Model 7 or the Titanium. I found one in the mountain rifle but i'm not crazy about the pencil barrel on that one. I'm gonna keep looking for a couple of months and if i can't locate one it looks like i may be the first time owner of a Ruger.
