RE: Good Deer Rifle
smoothsteve,
Check in with the Gun forum, this should help. I use a standard deer rifle, 30-06 and I have a shotgun, Mossberg 500 and both I have gotten deer with. There are so many rifles to choose from under $500. I know a guy that purchased a muzzleloader as his choice of rilfes since it can be used here in PA during several seasons.
Good luck

There are countless deer rifles that are available and everyone will tell you different. From my experiences the 3 most popular in my area are .270, 30-06, and .308. Any of these can be found around this price depending on the gun manufacturer. Savages are in the lower end of the price range and they go up from there. Personally I have to vote for .270. It is one of the flatest shooting guns and the most accurate gun I have ever owned. But that is not saying that any of the others won't suit you just as good. Like I said they are all great deer rifles, it's just personall preference. Good Luck.
