20 gauge performance WOW
hey all- i hunt mostly shotgun only, and have used a rem pump 12 for many years. this year i couldnt get a good group with it, and it turned out the barrell was slightly bulged at the end, no clue how this happened. Anyway, i decided to use my girlfriends 20 gauge 2-3/4 inch rem wingmaster pump with a bushnell 1.5-4 scope. i thought i'd be a little under gunned, but i shot 3 times, got 3 deer and all i can say is WOW! i never got a pass through( even at 10 yds) but the results were awesome. not one deer even took a step! serious performance from the little gun. the shots were at 10, 50 and 80 yards.
I will not underestimate the 20 again!! and, no kick! light to carry, to boot. hunt on! moose |
RE: 20 gauge performance WOW
Congrats man! Did three of them come to you at once. Last year 3 does came to me at about 30 yards running, but I only got one, which is surprising because the three were really close together (doe and two yearlings) and my last two shots were buckshot.

RE: 20 gauge performance WOW
I switched to a browning BPS 20 guage two years ago, 24 inch slug barrel and i shoot 2 3/4 brenneke slugs in it, shoots like a rifle out to 100 yards and a lot easier to carry.

To Moose 1915,
What kind of slugs were you using and do you have a full rifled barrel? I have had great success with a 12 gauge full rifled barrel with a 1.75-5 scope. The gun consistently will put 5 shots in a playing card at 100 yds., from a bench, using Winchester Supreme slugs. Anakrino |
RE: 20 gauge performance WOW
anakrino- just a smoothbore imp cyl. barrel and regular ol foster(sp?) slugs. all shots touch at 50yds and i get a 3"-6" group at 100, but its about 10" low there.
joe148- nope, got them all about a week apart from each other 2 big does and a 3 pointer |
