RE: hunting camps??
Come on! A hunting camp! Surely you know what a hunting camp is, huh?
Well, it can ba anything from a tent, to a plush lodge, or anything inbetween! My camp for the last four years has been a ' 64 Mobile Scout 17' camping trailer. It is tight , but comfortable. we don' t have running water or electricity, so we bring in water and use a small generator. We have a deer cleaning station, a couple of tables set up, an outhouse and an outdoor shower too! It ain' t all that much, but compared to the small tent and lantern lights that we used before that, it' s the Tahj Ma Hal ! |
RE: hunting camps??
Hunting camp for us is a 16ft. trailor I think a 1976 model. We burned so much gas bring it down to our lease, its not very travel friendly but after we parked it a few years ago and it hasn' t moved since. We have electricty so we cook food in the microwave which is more times then none hot dogs. We have running well water from the facuet but sometimes it wont work because its frozen. It isn' t a 5 star hotel but it sure gets the job done.

RE: hunting camps??
Hunting camp is for those occasions where one don' t sleep at home get up and drive to their local spot, but rather, it is usually for long distance/out of state/remote set ups in the middle of no where.
It is a good thing to experience. EKM |
RE: hunting camps??
Different people different things,, but basicly.... its a week away from home with the buddies hunting, playing cards so on and so on. My deer camp is 10 hour drive from home,,, sure lots of deer between here and there,,, but the scenery is so much better. Besides no phone, no tv, no fast food places, stuck out in the boonies in whitetail heaven,,, nothing better... you guys with the game out back really arent that lucky to come to think of it...:D

RE: hunting camps??
You dont know what a hunting camp is? And you think you love hunting?
A hunting camp is in the middle of no where, deep in the woods where the wolves and spirits wander at night. Its an old wooden steel roofed building with various forms of siding on 175 acres surrounded by crown that has been in the family for almost 100 years. It is a place to get away and spend a week in the bush away from everything and living life like in the old days, enjoying nature and everything in it. Theres NOTHING like being at a hunting camp. |
RE: hunting camps??
It' s the best part of deer season. There are about 15-20 or us that all meet up at one of the guys houses. He has an old milking cooler that we hang our deer in and after that we sit around and tell stories and eat lots of food. It sucks you don' t have one. I look forward to it about as much as I do getting to hunt.

RE: hunting camps??
Hunting Camp is a 12' x 14' wall tent with a wood stove, cots, sleeping bags and a small table. Coolers hold all the food and beer:D, everything is cooked on coleman stoves and water comes from that 5 gallon jug if you remeber it. There may be a small generator and a few lights to save on propane and keep the fumes out of the tent. Hunting camp is " doing your business" where so many animals have done before, and not freezing major parts of your anatomy off before you' re finished. Hunting camp is forgetting to wake up every now and then to keep the fire stoked, so you wake up to 10 below zero temps. Hunting camp is listening to the coyotes talk and seeing the moonlight throug the canvas ceiling. Hunting camp is being 50 miles from nowhere (the smallest town) and relying on what you have at the time. Hunting camp is living like barbarians for weeks at a time with noone to tell you what to do, and noone to yell at because their music is too loud. Best of all, hunting camp is spending time with your family and friends not having to worry about the things in life that relate to what we call civilization.
Hope this explains it good enough. |
RE: hunting camps??
Hunting camp is the best part! Mine is a bit different than some. I' m by myself except on the weekends when my husband usually comes up. But that' s the way I like it. Hunting just wouldn' t be the same without being able to take off and get away from everything and everybody for a couple weeks every year! Mine is a little camp trailer up in the mountains. No heat, no electricity, but lots of firewood and a little creek for washing up and getting extra water. It just doesn' t get any better!:D
![]() ![]() EKM, your camp is outstanding!:) |
RE: hunting camps??
Our hunting camp is an old one room country school which closed many years ago. One of the local farmers bought it and left it there for the local hunter to use. We have a large grill top and refrigerator and a good heating stove. We can stop in any time of the day or night and take a nap or cook a meal or just relate the days hunting expierences. Everyone just brings some food items and leaves them there for all to use. Not a good place to loose weight. My wife and I bring our camp cots and set them up there as we are the only ones that come from a great distance haveing moved away from there about six years ago. We still have a small farm in the area and it goes in the hunting land pool. My project for this summer is to build a little hunting cabin on my land as the old house is pretty well shot. There are about 50 racks on the walls of the old school house with the name and year the hunter took it. When I get set up to post pictures, I have some photos of the place.

RE: hunting camps??
Whackmasta, as with each of the others who has posted here, hunting camp is what you make of it to have your time away from the hussel-n-bussel of everyday life. Whether you go to hunt or just get away from it all, and a pup tent will do just as well as a trailor or mega tent.
Hunt camp is you and your time away. Take some of your buddies with you and it is all the better...;) BTW, for our hunters, it is a plush lodge, but that is what they want and pay for.. |
RE: hunting camps??

RE: hunting camps??
A hunting camp is a home away from home without any of the things that make your life comfortable but you don't care as its a place of relaxation. Its a place where everyone can get together and agree on one thing no matter how rough it is its still better than being stuck in the civilized world working. And everyone that you run into is doing the same thing you are and not yelling profanities at you.
We use ours for most of the year and its been in the family for years. The only thing ours is lacking is the old Sears catalog in the outhouse! Crawdaddy |
RE: hunting camps??
listen to the song "the second week of deer camp" by Da Yoopers

RE: hunting camps??
i sadly do not have a hunting camp. we go hunting at my camp, but it is not a hunting camp. we dont stay there or anything. We hunt private land right near my house, or drive half an hour to my family's land. We never stay there overnight, nobody has the free time for that. I wish i could go to a hunting camp, but a group of 20+ guys is too many! i hunt with 5 other people(dad, granpa, two uncles, and a cousin)

RE: hunting camps??
Somewhat off topic... but FYI
While not in the woods at my "deer camp" I've been reading a book called Legendary Deer Camps by Rob Wegner. Haven't finished it yet, but so far it's pretty good. Basically it tells the stories from famous deer camps of persons such as Teddy Roosevelt, Aldo Leupold, and others. And one other great book that I read last year during deer season is Ten Point: Deer Camp in the Mississippi Delta. The author of this one retells the stories of him growing up & spending time in his family's camp in the Delta bottoms. Lots of photos in this one. A great read! |
RE: hunting camps??
Hunting camp is now a pop up trailer, cazibo, outdoor shower. It was once a nice little cabin until a boulder fell on the owners trailer and he moved his stuff into the hunting cabin.

RE: hunting camps??
Hunting camp is a little one room shack built from the limber of a fallen down barn. Until I the only lady of the bunch started hunting it was a real mess. We now have a propane heating stove and a outhouse. We go here to get away from civilization even when we aren't hunting. My 8 and 11 year old beg to go all the time. They do have fun without TV, computer, or video games. We go and turn them loose on the 300 acres. We love living the simple life for a while.

RE: hunting camps??
ahhh....hunting camp. The memories ..wait I'm at hunting camp now. Is it bad to take a laptop into the woods ? Its getting away from the real world for as many days vacation as you have left.

RE: hunting camps??
I've been through the whole spectrum with hunting camps:
-alone and in groups -in tents, trailers, cabins, and the back of my truck (just an aluminum cap) -nearly EVERYONE of my hunting partners was a loud snorer![:@] -and the best I ever had was a friend's vacation home on the lake--a 4500 sq foot timberframe luxury house on the lake with fireplaces, a jacuzzi and an indoor pool. Boy, did we rough it! |
