barometric pressure indicates deer activity?
 

how many of you keep an eye on the barometer to get a good idea when the deer will be moving?i have heard that barometric movement--up or down will get the deer moving--does anyone agree or disagree with this?

I've heard this too, but I can't remember how it works. I think low pressure gets deer moving. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

I truly believe that barometric pressure has something to do with the movement of all animals and fish too. I've read that deer move better with the barometer falling below 30.

I also have heard that when ever the barometric pressure falls it usually indicates a low front coming which usually causes some rain or snow.I think sometimes just before this happens deer sense this and move or feed early.

I have used this as a tool. More as seeing if a front is coming in or going out. I have found that as a storm front is coming and the barometer drops the deer will move. then they hang tight if it's a bigger storm. As the storm passes the barometer moves back up and the deer will move again. I use the barometr to confirm what the weather man says

Fronts do have an affect on deer movement, especially when a storm is associated with it. In my area when a big snow fall or ice storm is coming the deer feed like crazy and then hunker down till it blows over and start moving again. I killed my buck this year about 3-4 hours after the snow quit falling.

The weather is a definite factor in deer movement around here .Clear sunny days you may as well stay home .

I've read that drastic barometric changes trigger deer movement. On a weather map when there are lines dividing areas of different barometric pressures, the closer these lines are to each other the more rapidly the pressure is changing. So supposedly a drastic swing in pressure, up or down makes for good hunting. Although I've found this to be true quite often, I don't think it's the only thing influencing movement. For me, if I have time to be hunting, it's a good day to go! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

When the pressure drops it means a low front is moving in, which in turn means a chance for precipitation. Game animals can feel this pressure change in the inner ear and they know to eat because bad weather is approaching. When the storm hits they usually hunker down and ride it out. When the pressure begins to rise, animals once again feel the pressure change, and this signals that the storm is passing and high pressure is moving in(good weather). This was explained to me by a game biologist and is a shortened version of how and why the barometer affects deer. I try to hunt as much as possble but I definately try to be out when fronts are approaching. I have seen lots of deer during these times.
