Need your Input Please

RE: Need your Input Please
Anytime a young hunter can get out to hunt is not a bad thing. As far as shooting a doe I see no problem in that.As for only being able to shoot a buck over 10pts,it sounds like the farmer is trying to save all his bucks.I don't think he has too many 12pt. bucks running around. If your son only wants to shoot a doe and doesn't mind not getting a buck,I would let him.

RE: Need your Input Please
Sounds like he wants your son to set him up with some nice bucks, if your son only wants does go for it, heck they are better eating anyway.

RE: Need your Input Please
If he is next to your land, would that not benefit you as well? It's nice of him to offer your son the hunting priveledges. Nothing wrong with having more than one spot. Maybe you could line up another spot where bucks smaller than 10pt are ok to shoot. Good luck, but I wouldn't tell him no and offend him.

RE: Need your Input Please
I just got permission to hunt on a farm and if I have the same restrictions I'd still be tickled pink! I agree doe meat is tastier and more tender. Maybe take a camera along and get pictures of the big bucks.

RE: Need your Input Please
I wish more people were like him. They won't grow if you don't let the little ones walk. Ask the farmer what your son should do if a 150 class 8 walks by.

RE: Need your Input Please
My answer: NEVER turn down a place to hunt!! You never know when you might end up needing one. And always respect the landowners wishes, no matter what.

RE: Need your Input Please
If your going to hunt this farm you must obey the land owners wishes. The last thing you want to do is go against the land owners rules. Theres nothing wrong with shooting does. Besides if you keep in terms with the land owner and gain his respect he may lighten the restriction later on once he realizes that there are not that many 10 point or better bucks on his place.

I'D BE HAPPY FOR YOUR SON, AND IT DOESN'T COST YOU ANYTHING TO HUNT THERE

RE: Need your Input Please
You should explain to the farmer that the amount of points has nothing to do with age. I'm sure he wants mature bucks only harvested. But alot of people, hunters included don't know a thing about aging deer.

RE: Need your Input Please
Sounds like a good deal!!! If the bucks get older they get bigger!!!!

RE: Need your Input Please
pabuckhunter3 you may like others have said try to explain to the farmer that bucks do not grow new points every year, there is a MONSTER 6 point on one property I hunt that is at least 5 1/2 years old, and unless he gets hit by a car he will at least see this October.

RE: Need your Input Please
I think it's a great idea the landowner has...but instead of 10 points maybe say the antlers have to be wider than the ears or if you're good at estimating scores...140 or better...or whatever. But yeah, i'd let him hunt. It's good the landowner cares about the Quality of is herd.

You wouldn't catch me turning down a place to hunt....
Suppose you only have a permit for a doe - it wouldn't make any difference anyhow... We had a doe over for "dinner" the other night - she was delicious! <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> ______________________ Rick Edited by - Chairman on 02/06/2002 17:24:13 |

I say, let the kid bring home a ten pointer!!!

RE: Need your Input Please
I would never turn down a place to hunt. It is hard enough to find one, and then to let one get away - unimaginable. It is his land and he sets the rules. That's the way the game goes. You can certainly try to get the rules changed, but I would not push too hard for fear of losing all hunting priveleges.

RE: Need your Input Please
Hmmmm, it sounds like a good deal to me if the farmer is practicing what he preaches. If he does, then the bucks in that area should be above average and your son will have a great chance at shooting a REALLY nice buck. If he only says this because he wants the bucks for himself, it still wouldn't matter that much. There is probablly a big ten point running around that he could get.
Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^) |
RE: Need your Input Please
sounds like a nice place to doe hunt. better look for a buck somewhere else.
|
RE: Need your Input Please
if you dont have any other place to hunt go for it . :)

RE: Need your Input Please
We have a picture of a real nice 11 point from last year, the same deer (he has a distinctive ear) this year is a big 8 point. No doubt about age not determining point total.

RE: Need your Input Please
Sounds good to me. Private hunting ground is tough to find these days especially for free. If that's what the landowner wants then ya have to do what he says. Who knows, he might lower his "standards" in a few years. Just be thankful he's letting your son hunt.
