During the rut and in certain areas the musky smell from deer, elk and moose I notice quite often, this is where I start my calling/rattling session if the area is of promise. Other times I haven' t noticed the ability to smell game though. I have had that feeling something is near to turn and their he or she stands, really kind of freaky but I guess we all have a sixth sense sort to speak, like walking in a dark alley and knowing but not hearing someone is behind you...BOO[]

They stink ,musky odor from their scent glands and urine. If the breeze is in my face I can smell them. I can also smell them , dead, inside a building.

It's not hard to smell a buck especially if he is in rut. I've been walking through the woods many times headed to my stand and smell that rutting buck odor and there's no doubt that he was just there or had been through there recently. I've walked up on scrapes and there would be fresh urine in the scrape and that musky goat smell everywhere. It's a very distinct smell.

I think the deer smell me long before I get close enough to smell them, dammit.
