Rub Line' s got me puzzled
Hey all i am hoping you guys can be of some help. I have located two very good rub lines in the area that i hunt. One goes at an angle up a pretty steep ridge which once you get on top is basically pretty flat. Another paralells the side of a ridge with a steep bottom below. The reason for the post is that i can' t pinpoint where the buck is bedding at. From what i have learned you can follow rub lines to locate bedding and feeding areas. But i have yet to find either. Am i not walking the rub line far enough to locate these areas? Any help from the rub line guru' s would be greatly appreciated.

is there water at the bottom of the ridge ? which side are the rubs on , does it look like it is the same deer ,tracks ,tree size . this is the things that I look for . I have great luck hunting rubs . where I hunt the bucks like to bed down on the sides of steep ridges , half way down. they run up and down these ridges like goats and these are steep ....good luck

you did not mention which direction the deer was traveling.if the buck is going uphill ,i would believe he is bedding on that shelf.if the rubs are coming back the opposite direction, that would confirm he was going up to bed and making his way back down.if the rubs are going in the same general direction,it could be two bucks.good luck and keep in mind that setting up on him anywhere below will give your scent away in the am.

Sorry about leavin that part out. The rubs are facing up the hill. looks like what you said Loner i think he is bedding on that shelf on top. Maybe a good tactic would be to get halfway up the ridge between the top and bottom rub line a good hour before sunrise. My last question that should get me right for this weekend is how far do you guys follow a rub line before you find out where the bedding and feeding areas are. See i hunt in the mountains and its hard for me to pinpoint these things as it would be if i were somewhere else.

i don' t have any mountains here in ms.,but hunted in stuart,va. on a mountain and those people up there taught me to hunt the " saddles" which is what you are describing.i would take a day pack and set up on the saddle about an hour before daylight and come in from downwind which hopefully, would be in the opposite direction the buck is travelling to get to the same place you are.
