scoring --how is ....
 

can someone explain to me the scoring process, in several post i seee where there telling there score in responce to there size. Im just curious on how they figure what it is... thanks for any info given.:)

surf to Boone and Crockets scoring web sight. Basically they give you a list of measurments to make on the rack. Then you add all them up and subtract differences between left and right side, net vs. gross and you have a score.

On each antler they measure the length of the main beam, the length of each tine and 4 circumferences. They add the two sides together and that' s the gross typical score. Then they subtract the differences between the two sides and come up with the subtotal. After that, they subtract the total length of all abnormal points for a typical or they add all the abnormal points for a non-typical score. Gross score, I think, tells the real story of the size. Too many great bucks get low scores because they have too many points. For example, a nine pointer will score lower than an 8-pointer because the 9th point is considered an abnormal. I think you can score your buck as a typical or non-typical, depending on which way you think it will score better. It takes 170 to make B&C typical and 195 for non-typical. Their was a buck shot in Illinois in 1993 that was far bigger than the Hanson buck. It had beautiful forked brow tines and they were considered deductions. It lost about 16 inches for them and it cost that buck the record. That buck is the Damery Buck if anyone is interested.

Thanks again,was curious on how it was done. not that ive had the luk of shooting a buck with big enough mass to try and figure ouy. maybe someday i will be. :)

Check it out. It will give you the scoring standards for many big game animals, and it is very easy to do.

Oops, you' re right. Inside spread that is. All my bucks make " the book" without the spread so I don' t even bother with it:D:D. Just kidding, of course. My biggest buck was about 120 (with spread:D).

Just to help you get a feel for numbers vs rack. I scored this one last fall and I got a gross score of 151 1/2 and got a final score after deductions of 146 5/8. He was real even from side to side so the deductions were very minimal. Check this out.;)
