Just when I thought I couldn' t get any worse...it did!
I had a rough day last weekend. At 12:15 I shot at a big doe as I watched her and another doe for almost two minutes. When she finally took that extra few steps to offer a perfect shot from my treestand at 20 yds, she jumped just as I was about to shoot. The result was not as clean as I hoped. When I came down after unloading my rifle, there she was bedded down less than 25 yds away. As I was about to put her back into my sights, she took off leaving very little blood. My buddy and I tracked her for the rest of the day and never could find her. Without going into much detail, there was evidence that she was hit very hard, but little if any blood to follow. We called off the search after getting an A for effort and I cannot explain how badly I felt. This was my first time loosing a deer but my son knows the feeling as he put an arrow thru a nice buck a few yrs. back. There was no doubt this deer was hurt as well. He felt bad and lost sleep for a while after that.....Anyway, here I am coming out of the woods at dark, feeling about as low as I have ever felt as a hunter and I noticed writing on my driver' s side window. In magic marker someone had writtem " Bambi Killing Fag" ......in very large letters...I told my buddy that this really bothered me, but I felt so much worse about what had happened earlier in the day. If things could have been different I wish this big doe went right down without any suffering, or I had a complete miss...I also wish I had been there at my truck when this grafitti writing nitwit was there!! Sorry to be so wordy, but I just had to vent.....Jimmy

I had that happen once and I hit the deer in the leg, searched and searched, found blood, hair, and bone but the deer took off. I felt bad too but what can you do. I ended up shooting that deer again in late muzzleloader.
As for the Anti and the grafitti, I would just forget about it and chaulk it up to some jerk.
Try again and shoot your best.
Good luck hunting....

I think you should make a report of the grafitti to the police. Every time it happens and people just blow it off it gives the anti' s more incentive to continue. With a report from you and anyone else it happens to you might establish a pattern and be able to catch the jerks who did it. Check into your local hunter harassment laws, and do what you can to stop these idiots.

Jimmy,
Sorry to hear about your day. I' m sure you did everything to find the deer. I also know what its like to be dogged by the anti huntin crowd. where we hunt if there is snow we get alot of XC skiers who think they know the boundries to some private land. The problem is is that they don' t and we have to educate them on where private land stops and public begins. We' ve actually taken some to the plat marker. Even though we have permission and every right to use the trails to get to public land we often cut through the woods to avoid trouble. Last year there was a guy standing at a trail crossroads with a crowbar! not quite sure what he expected.
A.K.A don' t be too quick to say they smoke cigs and love diet coke....Thats me[] but I don' t frost my hair In our neck of the woods we refer to them as Lycra wearin' , tree huggin' , latte drinkin' , mountain bike ridin' , XC skiing, liberal *#$@!' s [>:]

Can' t imagine someone doing that to your rig in washington. Too bad about the doe but it happens, I lost a spike with the bow this year.
Take that secound shot if you get a chance.Get back out there and good luck.
