Rough season

I've had a rough season.

Barely any legal bucks seen by our camp in PA. I haven't seen a buck in ohio period. Seeing a couple doe a day, which is pretty normal for my public land hunts here in ohio. But nothing with antlers.

I'm doing everything right. Just one of those years.

Posted from the woods on the last evening hunt of ohio Gun Season

So I'm almost doing everything right i guess.

1.5 hours to go.......

Oldtimr 12-22-2025 05:27 AM

I have had some health issues and didn't get out much because my atv broke down , the carburetor took a dump and I was without the atv the whole season. I am on an oxygen concentrator when I walk so I could not get to my stand. I have it back now and I am going to hunt late archery.

Wish I was closer OT, I'd come give you a hand.

Do you have a buddy heater in the stand? If not, they make a big difference in the late season

Yes I have had one in my stand for several years. I couldn't be outside if it is under 40 degrees using the concentrator. As long as I have my atv to get back and forth from the stand I am alright. I just have to remember to not turn on the concentrator while my heater is turned on or it could get ugly. While going back and forth from the stand I put the concentrator in a back pack that was made for it and wear it under my coat.

I’m sorry to hear that Oldtimr.. I have trouble walking because of my legs and during cold weather I take to coughing. That coughing part has stayed with me since the cancer I had dealt with.. So that’s part of the reason I took that young buck with my crossbow. Which was just out back of the house in my garden. But, unlike yourself I can still get around some. Yes if I was closer I would try to help you. I try and help a friend up here that fell when putting in a new bass boat last spring. They took him to the OR and gave him x-rays and he discovered he has cancer in 3 places. He uses a side by side to hunt out in back of his house. He’s not on oxygen but has to use a walker to get around with. His determination is strong though. He had cancer 5 years prior and this time they can’t do much for him. So he’s going through a day by day thing..
I did have my wife out a quite a few times and only saw does and a few moose here and there.. I was doing a quite a bit of coughing which didn’t help her much..

I appreciate the the consideration from both you and Boca Phil. I don't need oxygen 24/7 but I do when exerting myself. My ATV make thing easier for getting to my stand and returning, it is also a blessing for getting my deer back to my truck. I will be 79 in 6 days, I have been blessed to have my health as long as I have had it.

OT, I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope it turns around for you. I know what you mean about having your health being a blessing. Phil, sending the same well wishes to you. I'm recovering from back surgery last year and it takes something out of you. I don't remember who said it first but sometimes it feels like getting old is not for sissies. :D
