RE: slug gun
Depending on where you hit them, that will determine meat loss. but Slugs leave a big big big hole, much bigger than a bow or a Rifle. and as far as when a deer is hit, i cant really tell a difference, accept when they drop, but i do know that they start to bleed almost instantly. good luck, and watch that gun, i bet she kicks like a mule!

RE: slug gun
I use lightfield commanders in 3" in my mossburg and so far ' it has dropped the deer almost instantly. My slugguns are equipped with scopes but I try to treat my setups like I' m bow hunting. My average shot is 40 yds. and at most, I loose one shoulder. Tony

I' ve shot many with slugs. If you shoot them where you' re supposed to you don' t lose any meat. I strongly suggest....double lung them......no meat loss and they go nowhere.
My only suggestion is make sure you practice at various distances and differant slugs shoot very differant in a gun!
Good Luck!

I agree with Cloud9, less bloodshot meat as there is with Buckshot. Hit them right and you lose a little burger meat. The wrong shot could cost you though. Make sure your sight is on, but that goes without saying.

I use remington copper solids in my mossberg. They don' t leave a giant hole and are accurate for long shots. The downside is, I don' t think they have quite the " shock" to the animal as other(blunt) slugs. The brennekes in my old gun always put the animal down where they stood. With rem. coppers they seem to run a bit.Not far, but they never seem to run TOWARD to truck
