What grain bullet to use

This year for rifle hunting, I thought that it would be kind of nostalgic if I used my Grandfather' s 30-30 lever action rifle. However I am unsure of what grain/kind of bullets to use with it. I have a tree stand up about 10-15 feet. Most of my shots are between 10-60 yards. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks in Advance!!

I use a 30/30 Winchester lever action. I have taken a buck and a doe with it using 150 gr Remington bullets. The 150 gr Winchester bullets hit the same place on the target though. Georgia deer are small. I guess the 170 gr bullets would be better for larger game. My shots were under 20 yds.

The 150 gr. will take down any deer in the country. I like it because it shoots a little flater than the 170 gr. Inside 150 yds. any will work fine.

any kind of 150' s -160' s are great, but see wut shoots best if at all possible. My step-dad has 2, I used one ' till I bought my Savage 7mm.-08 in August (Great Gun)

I have always used the 170 grain when I pull the 30-30 off of the shelf though I tend to prefer heavier bullets in general. I think either the 150 or 170 should work fine though.

I prefer the MUCH flatter shooting 150grners to the 170grners, at typical hunting ranges, energy is energy, the velocity hasn' t dropped enough that you need the weight to be the determinant factor of energy...BUT the improved trajectory is nice. Neither one starts out very fast, but the 170s rainbow a whole lot more than the extra weight is worth.

After seein' the damage a 30-06 150gr vs 180gr will do, my $.02 say 150gr is ample bullet for deer.

My dad said that he feels the 170 grain bullets are more accurate in his 30-30 Marlin. Just another oppinion. Probably would do best if you tried them all out for yourself.
