I' m using a Pro Point red dot with no magnification.
My setup doesn' t keep good groups out past 75 yards, so it works just fine, and it' s got FAST target acquisition with both eyes open.

I have a 2 power Simmons on my shotgun.Went for the lower power as the field of view is larger. And 50 yd. shots are about what I get.

If you' re hunting thick stuff a scope is useless. Red dots have no magnification but are awesome slug gun sights. You shoot them with both eyes open and for easy shooting on drives and moving deer in the brush. Just make sure you get one with a small dot. 5 MOA( will cover 5" at 100 yards) is the biggest you should consider. Mine is a 3 MOA.

Good Luck!

I had put on a Bushnell scope 3x9x40 on my Mossberg 500 and could not get good grouping at 100 yards so I went back to the open sights. I was hitting the target at 100 yards with open sights so I' m back to them.

I' ve got Bushnell on both my shotgun and my muzzle loader. They are very clear and until today I had no complaints[:' (] Wanted to check the zero on my shotgun so after one shot you could no longer see through the scope[:@] Guess it had too many slugs shot through it and it just decided to blow up. They are reasonable enough I can' t complain though. Going out to get another one to replace the one I took off of my ML to put on the 12 GA.

I' ve got a bushnell 1.5-4x variable and a simmons pro diamond The bushnell I use with my fully rifled barrel for winter Jan.&Feb. season, and the pro diamond on my gun with a rifled choke tube for hunting thick stuff or in the fall. I believe both are around 100$ or less. Never had any trouble. And I' m out there most of the winter.

Joeturse what exit is Shamong?:D;)

I have a Cabela' s Pine Ridge shotgun scope on my 870 and I' m very happy with it.
It is 2.5-7x32, very clear, and reasonably priced. They also have the same scope that' s fixed at 2.5

Ditto on the Leupold 1x4 shotgun scope, I' ve had one on a Remington 870 for 10 years now. I use it only for turkey hunting though. Should work great for deer hunting also.

i wouldnt use a scope with a shotgun shooting slugs. iron sights are the way to go. if you cant hit somthing at 50yrd, you need to practice more.

however, if you are intent on getting a scope, you dont need anything more than a 1x3.

Each to their own..I have an 870 pump gun with TruGlow sights on it & they are awesome...I wouldn' t waste my money on a scope. If you can' t put 3 shots into a paper plate at 100 yrds then you need to practice till you find the slug that will do the job for you....Challenger Slugs will do that for me!!!!! Most shotgunned deer are much closer than 100 yrds in fact the couple I shot last season were about 10 yrds away & the spike horn I got this year was about 15 yrds away so definitely a scope was not needed!!!!!!!! Good luck.......;)....Brampton Mike [8D]

thanks for all the replies, prolly leaning to a fiber optic sight, I can smack a plate consistently ( making 3" groups 8>) ) with just factory sights , i' m blind in one eye so two eye acquisition is out of the question :p
Thanks again for all the input!
