23 Off Season
What's going on for your off season?
I've got one camera out I've been watching. Nothing of interest currently of course. But should start seeing fawns and bucks starting to grow on the next card pull. I've got a stand I need to move and a new one to put up. Got it discounted at Walmart after Christmas. 12 ft ladder stand for $89. Will get those done in June probably. -Jake |
load some ammo, do some loadwork, enjoy the summer, tend garden and drink beer!

I'm really thinking about trying to get into a lease.
The kids are hunting with me now some, and the boy,9, got a doe two years ago. But no luck last year. I don't mind hunting the pressured public myself. Kinda enjoy it sometimes. But it's tough with the kids. -Jake |
I built 3 brush blinds this spring on public. I will go back out in the woods in July and August to place cams and maybe trim some shooting lanes.

Whole lotta shooting. :s3:

What camera are you using Jake? I've got a lot of cams up but they're all on private property.
For this off season, I'm rehabbing an ankle, sighting in rifles and patterning shotguns. Gotta stay busy. |
I am taking my grandson and FIL wild boar hunting in SC in the 1st week of June for my grandson's graduation from college gift.

Been putting up treestands. We've got acorns this year, so I've been concentrating on trails to and from oak stands. We still have a permanent stand to build. Food plot is in and thriving. Been monitoring trial cam's. I have the occasional wolf come through but I'm having trouble with bears this year. I have them on multiple cameras pretty regularly and have had 2 cameras torn off trees. Bastards.

Bought a nice slug barrel for my Remington 1100 in a yard sale for $15. My wife looked at me like I was nuts. I just laughed at her and showed her a couple of them on e-bay with the prices of them. Other than that working on my camp. It was a big project that I had started before Covid and working never gave me the time to get back at it. Now being retired I am slowly getting it done.
I also contacted my taxidermist yesterday on my buck antlers. I have been wanting to get them scored and asked him if I could pick just the antlers up and get them scored and then bring them back for their mounting. As I was expecting them to not be done until at least mid November. Well he told me he was going to be starting the mount this week and will have it done for me to pick up in a couple of weeks! I was surprised and also told me that they will be scored before I pick it up! That’s awesome and can hardly wait to see it!! |
