Would you eat this deer? It has an infection with pus at the base of his pedicle. I read about brain abscess syndrome in bucks and got worried.

A brain abscess would not exude puss from around the antler. Post a photo so we can see it, it is probably the result of a fight.

If you are questioning it I'd probably shy away.

I'd make a visit to a local butcher. Those guys would know bad meat.

The op was in Oct. I doubt there is stilb an answer needed.

In no case. It may be fraught. I would generally show it to veterinarians or animal control there.

My thought is there are plenty of other deer in the woods to be eating questionable ones.... I would not eat anything that could possibly harm me or my family...
