Were you trophy hunting or just not seeing a lot of animals?

This is what I put on mine. It makes everything taste good.

We got a nice layer of snow and I was looking for a freezer doe. With only 3 days left of our ML season I was thinking that I needed to figure out a good recipe for tag soup since I wasn't seeing much other than 3 spike bucks which are protected here in western Vt. I left a stand late morning and was still hunting my way back to the truck. Quiet walking made me take a longer way back and when I came around a bend in the logging road I saw 2 doe eating in a blowdown just ahead. I picked the biggest one and filed my tag. Good thing because I bought some sausage mixes that would have been a constant reminder of my bad season. The only other deer I killed was one that caused $5600 damage to the front of my GMC truck on the way to hunt in early morning during rifle season and there wasn't much left of it since I took it out at 55 mph.

Finally broke down this morning and shot a doe though about 10am. I'll keep that spicy ketchup in mind for next time! -Jake |
Jake, the September 2021 issue of American Hunter has an article titled "10 Ways to Eat Your Tag." Maybe that will help? :poke:

You already followed the recipe I would have give, pop a doe.

This is something I'm starting to think about. I bumbled my way to a missed shot this morning. Last day is tomorrow.

A nice fat doe is one of my favorite foods. Had tenderloins, onions and mushrooms for supper. I have yet to find a decent recipe to make antlers palatable...lol
