RE: Climbing Tree Stand
I like to be completely settled in at my hunting height, 15 minutes before first shooting light.

RE: Climbing Tree Stand
I usually like to be in my stand a good hour before it is light enough to shoot. That gives me time to get everything set up up there as well as enough time for the woods to " calm down" around me.

RE: Climbing Tree Stand
There' s two philosophies to consider. First, are hunters that like to be in the stand before daylight and 2nd are the guys that like to walk in when they can see so if they come upon deer they can get a shot or avoid spooking the deer.
I personally like to be in the tree at least an hour before daylight. If nothing else, it' s just a great peacefull time to be in the woods while you wait for daylight. You can watch falling stars and hear all kinds of strange noises. However, I have spooked deer stumbling through the dark. |
RE: Climbing Tree Stand
It depends but typically I like to get set up about a half hour before shooting light. One excption is a stand site on one property that the deer take some time to get to. I know I' m not going to jump any so I get there as light is breaking and know they will be through at about 7:30 or so. I did this on Saturday and they came through on schedule. Nothing dropped though.

RE: Climbing Tree Stand
I am usually up in the tree and ready at least 1 hour before legal shooting time. When the sun comes up I want the deer to be under my tree not the one in the next county.:)
